Had a wee dram of both these today
Springbank 12 Year Old cask strength 70cl 58.5%ABV Matured: 60% fresh sherry hogsheads 40% refill sherry butts Colour: Golden Straw Nose: Very rich and lush with strong toffee and caramel notes to begin with. The nose then develops to really thick treacle with heavy notes of marmalade. This whisky has a really "meaty" nose with some hints of cinnamon and smoke. Palate: An amazingly full bodied whisky, rich with a thick and oily texture. It has a very rich taste of oranges, tangerines and clementines as well as a hint of cocoa. Finish: Sweet and very rich, long finish with a hint of smoke. You are a very bad man Andy - that Springbank looks just my kind of whisky and is now on my 'to buy' list ...

I never liked blended whisky until 2012 when we went to a whisky tasting at the Ben Nevis distillery in Fort William. As a consequence, I bought a bottle of Ben Nevis 12 year old and it is quite superb, the best blended I have ever tasted.
There's nowt wrong with a good blended in my opinion. Another whisky on my list of to-buys is this Ballantine's 17 yr old blended which has quite a reputation ...

It's supposed to be very good.
I have just finished one of these off.
I am not planning on replacing it at the current prices.

Ah - this is a problem I have whenever a bottle materialises - it lasts for a lot less time than planned!

I'm not really a fan of the island malts (in fact I don't like them at all), preferring the highland distilleries and being of Irish descent, I drink Whisk ey most of the time, which got me into trouble with Ali once Bushmills tends to be a favourite, in fact I think I'll get one now. . . . . . That's better, anyway where was I - I like Glenmorangie, The Macallan and I really like Dalwhinnie, might have to try that Japanese one now though Jules. I'm fairly traditional I guess and got bored of trying out countless different malts, so tend to stick with what I like, finding them just different rather than better than what I know and like - which kind of mirrors my take on audio gear funnily enough. I always add a dash of water and never, ever add ice and it has to be out of a nice chunky bottomed (plain) glass too or it just doesn't seem to work as well. I don't drink many blends as I seem to have acquired a taste for single malts, but I always have a bottle of Jameson in the cupboard, which I do enjoy. (my other spirit passions are gin and I really love XO cognac)

Balvenie has been a favourite for years but lately Jura Original slides down joyfully.

It's perfectly normal that a forum ends up costing you money.

I used to adore XO cognac Tim, that is, when you could pick it up for 50 quid at duty free - I fear those days are gone ... Cannot abide gin. The only other spirit I enjoy from time to time is Calvados ...

Sigh. I do love a sweet drop o' the bottle - Laphroaigh when I could afford it, but I'm in straightened circumstances at the moment. One little trick (and I know this is heresy in a Single Malt thread) is that I brew my own Ginger Beer. It is delicious in its own right, but add a finger of The Right Stuff and you have a really heart-warming, flavoursome brew. The natural ginger is good for the smomach and the cheap stuff (Dewars etc) is lifted. I do have a question for you guys: do you sip it neat or add a little water?
