Don't keep so many open. Once a bottle gets to half full/empty the flavour starts to weaken. A wine saver should alleviate the issue. That's a very good tip Clive, will try that ...

The blending advice is fascinating.

I opened the Glengoyne Legacy tonight. It's an unctuous, mouth-filling drop, with rich orange candied fruit, raisins and spice, with a quite wonderful long and lingering finish. Similar to a'bunadh in style but much better and much cheaper. At RRP £54.99 it's a cracker, but at Amazon's current £39.99 it's an *outstanding* bargain in whisky terms - if you love the heavily sherried styles like I do, I would say it is a must.

The blending advice is fascinating. It works too, especially with Caol Ila - but that's what over 90% of it is used for, blending. It's a chameleon whisky - works really well with something like Redbreast 12 (Irish Whiskey) and can improve a cheap blend no end. Aldi Highland Black 8YO is a great value age statement blended whisky and with a splash of Caol Ila added, it's even better.
I try it often, doesn't work everytime, but when it does there's a great sense of satisfaction in elevating a whisky beyond it's standard flavour. I only try it with lower priced whiskies though!

Proper strength that and looks pretty good value - bourbon and sherry cask maturation is nice but not sure I would handle the peat!

Proper strength that and looks pretty good value - bourbon and sherry cask maturation is nice but not sure I would handle the peat! It's only a hint Jules at 8-10ppm, compared to Longrow, which is around 50ppm or say an Ardbeg Ten at around 45ppm - it's a mere whiff of peat.
I avoided peat for most of my whisky drinking life, but kept at it and had an epiphany one day and have never looked back. So many doors have now been opened and I enjoy whisky so much more

I quite like Laphroaig and Talisker, peaty whiskies.
EDIT: what is the plural of 'whisky'?

I'm on my 2nd bottle (I can normally only manage one bottle per day ). I don't detect any peat. I'd say it's a very traditional classic styled malt and all the better for it.

And yes Clive, the peat is hardly noticeable and I fully agree it's a 'real' single malt, like single malts used to be.
A classic Scotch Whisky made in a traditional way by a company passionate about the art, rather than a large corporate factory. I'm a big fan of everything from Springbank and Glengyle distilleries. Proper whisky

There's no Springbank 12 left at sensible prices, I reckon Clive has quaffed it all ...
I'm drinking Glengoyne Legacy.

Luckily my friendly local wine merchant comes from Cambletown, so always gets a few cases of Springbank releases and keeps a few back for regulars

Anyone tried GlenDronach 12?
A reasonably priced Sherry maturation which I've been thinking of buying ...

They are all good Jules, the 18 especially, but I'd take the 12, 15 or 18. For the price I think the 12 is good value and can normally be found for under 40 quid. Certainly better than similarly priced whiskies in a supermarket. It's not what I'd personally call a sherry bomb, but I recall it's not coloured or chill filtered, so I say go for it. One day I'll get to try the 21

Of preference I tend toward the less peaty more citrus/floral end of the whiskey spectrum. Currently enjoying The Glenlivet Nadura First Fill 60.3% ABV linkAnd Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition link
