I've tried all manner of photos of me. It's clever and doesn't work with anything but my face.
It's the same with my Surface Pro. Only works with a real face.

Mike can use... • A Knock Code: Tap the spaces of the screen in accordance with a pattern to unlock the screen. • Pattern: Draw a pattern to unlock the screen. • PIN: Enter a numeric password to unlock the screen. • Password: Enter an alphanumeric password to unlock the screen. I use a pattern lock on most of my devices, and fingerprint I.D. on the iPad Decided on what I will use ! Can't rush these things Flat battery. Will charge up Is this normal ?

Watched an episode of The Good Fight, where a drug comatosed lawyer face opened his iPhone no problem Guess my fingerprint reader would be happy with a cut off finger.. though I did read somewhere that they also use the blood vessels beneath.. doubt they are that clever yet. Back in the early noughties phone security argued against fingerprint readers, around that time a Malaysian businessman's Merc was stolen with his cut off finger.. Sorry must snap out of this morbid Friday mood

I guess a dead face might do it. Does anyone want to use my phone that badly?

Question to Paul or anyone else Baffled on what to do to put money on the phone Seem to be many options and I understand only a little. Can I pay £5 and have access to phone calls, broadband and all other without a 30 day cut off ? Type slowly please Later on the 3 Website www.three.co.uk/web_top_up

Round and round I go. Cannot see where to buy a "no expiry" PAYG credit or top up or whatever it is called. 30 days expiry is pointless for me

Mike, if you've got a PAYG account with Three... | Top-ups
Where a Top-up is bought in-store and a 16-digit code provided, the Top-up needs to be activated within 90 days of buying it. Once activated, Top-ups have no expiry date, unless there is no activity at all on an account for 180 days as Three reserves the right to terminate or suspend unused accounts. Where there are free allowances with a Top-up they are always used first. If you’ve bought an Add-on, this allowance is used next followed by your cash credit. Your top-up is for use in the UK as well as in our Feel At Home Around the World destinations, at no extra cost.
|
The best thing to do, if you think you're not actually going to use the phone inside 180 days, is set an alarm for 173 days time to remind you to ring your home phone number. Don't forget to answer yourself otherwise it may not count, but don't spend too long talking to yourself. THREE'S T&C

Thanks Paul Just finished on online chat and sorted. Not obvious for thickos like me first time around but I will remember it. Has to be bottom of the page and a figure selected for the buy. Then select 321 Now to use the phone And set the alarm If someone phones me does that count or must I make an outgoing call ?

Could have used an App or function on my Android phone the other evening after visiting Martin and finding the M3 at a standstill.
I assume Google maps or similar. Jump off the motorway as I did then punch in something like Avoid the M3 for a few junctions and take me up the A30 or even Take me home without the traffic standstills on the M3 and more no doubt spreading all around it Showing that on a tiny phone screen and not getting me done for using my mobile while driving !
Doable ?

I use my phone for voice guided sat-nav all the time Mike. Google maps navigation has real-time traffic and should take you the quickest route - it will also adjust your route whilst driving to a quicker route if it finds one ...
I have a holder that I clip onto my dash-board to hold the phone, works very well indeed.

That sounds easy ish
Phone flat so looking on laptop Never looked at Traffic on Google maps before. Clever. Very clever seeing roads in colours, even some road closures
What would have happened if I had been using it or switched it on when the traffic stopped ? Would not have had it on for the journey home as I expected a reasonably good run. Programme it for home and quickest route ?

Mike, it's simples - get in the car and put in the post-code of where you want to go and just let google do its thing - you don't need to do anything else!
It will always do the quickest route. I use it even if not expecting much traffic as it's analysing traffic in real time.

That simple ! Will try it out next time I go somewhere Think the boss has used this on her iPhone. Says it uses a lot of her data though Which might take me nicely to what MartinT uses ....

It's a few times now Google maps has helped us avoid long delays on cross country journeys by re-routing us on the fly.
I have it running even if I know where I'm going, just for that.
Tried Waze app too, but prefer Google maps.
Screen on a Pixel XL isn't small either! I have screen sucker holder with magnet pad under my phone protector case, super fast to attach. A dual 3A/2A fast charger for his and hers keeps us both happy 😀
It's a fair bit more intelligent than the built in sat nav.
Google also quite recently snuck in the true GPS speed indicator.. for years (2008?) Nokia drive had that! 🙄

The one thing you might need to be wary about is battery - on my old phone I could nearly see the battery draining in front of my eyes but on my new phone it's fine.
Data of course depends on your plan but doesn't use as much as you might think.
