Do you ever need to dust any of your kit Jerry ? Need? Interesting choice of word. It implies a compulsion of some sort to do some dusting. In which case the answer is no. More to do with the kit never staying very long ! When the sun catches mine just right I wonder about planting spuds

Ah, I'm a bit confused, Mike. Do you think my kit needs dusting,or were you marvelling at how much less dusty my gear is than yours?
Except when audio buddies come a-visiting dusting is quite a rare event. Which accounts for the current relatively high level of dustiness.

I'm assuming your kit does not need dusting as it doesn't stay long enough to gather dust.
Mine, or more likely this house generates more dust than I can comprehend

I have a feather duster on my shelf, ready for when the dust levels annoy even me. Haven't used it in a good while.

Sunny day today. In the not too distant future the sun comes around and shows me how much I need to dust the kit - a lot Last done around 2-3 weeks ago

I'm still quite impressed by the Cyrus preamp. Have now added a PSX-R psu unit.
Well. Night and day it isn't. At first listen it did eff all tbh.
But after a while a somewhat fuller tonality is heard, a bit more heft in the lower mids which is handy. And imaging is a bit more focused, the soundstage a bit deeper. A bit sweeter at the top, which also doesn't hurt.
The pre cost me getting on for 600, the add on psu another 300. Is it worth an additional 50%? No. Do I want to give the PSX-R up? No! ... for a box swapper like me it's fine, no problem getting my money back when it's time to sell. But it's poor value for the more careful long term system builder imo.

Ah, that's interesting, Brian. What Cyrus have you had?
I've had 2 bits of Cyrus in the last few decades and been impressed by them both.
The other was a CD8x CD player - that was seriously yummy!.... If a bit lightweight tonally.

In my experience the plastic bodied Cyrus 2 was killer. Then they fucked up by introducing the Nextel finished aluminium bodied version, which of course I bought (the plastic one I heard was end of line and impossible to order new from the dealer at the time).
That said we are talking mid-fi to low budget gear here. I in no way wish to be patronising. Just keeping it real.
I am not sure why the Nextel version was so inferior as I never had the opportunity to inspect the internals of both versions in terms of component quality. But my seeking suspicion is the internal budget went down big style in favour of external appearance and apparent quality on the basis it would sell better.
Maybe it did. I never saw the sales figures.

Oh dear I have just remembered better. The Nextel finish, which pealed off with age, came later.
The plastic version was superceded by an aluminium body in a possibly adonised black finish. That's the one I bought.

I still remember having a great demo of the Cyrus II & PSX.
Not what you'd call 'neutral' but I remember it was really dynamic and entertaining.

I'm still admiring the lucidity, tonality and dynamics of the Cyrus pre/DAC - I'm having a bit of trouble with the imaging on smaller scale music, which is a bit unfortunate as most of my listening is to smaller scale repertoire.
... it's £1.5k new btw, not exactly a budget component for most folks. Over £2k with the add on psu box.
Have just bought a possible replacement.

It's very easy to see virtue in anything.
The items you live with long term and can't get yourself to allow yourself to sell are the ones that are interestimg.
Gotta say much as I have thought Mission are very English and we should be very proud of them, they haven't convinced me to invest in them.
I can think of some excellent super small hi-fi creators that exceed my expectations as being excellent and I am actively giving one of them money to encourage them.
Can't say better than that.

We have different points of view on many things.
The only long term keeper I have are my speakers. That doesn't mean that everything else I've had hasn't been interesting. Quite the contrary.

Me too for speakers and possibly my power amp, because I have not yet found their limits.

When I get round to trying my Cyrus 1 it will be interesting to see if it's still an entertainer.
It has quite a weight to it for such a small amp. I'm still in love with its aesthetics no matter what.
