My computer sound system does a very passable job when I'm in the study.

Some of the best music I ever listened to was on my little transistor radio back in the sixties.

I had a friend over and he was really impressed with the speakers , low level detail, bass and even how natural the guitar growls in the right places. I feel I am pretty on point with a natural sound that can do anything from acoustic guitar to complex prog metal. Not sure where to head next the amp might be the weakest link in the chain. Perhaps a itch I will scratch at some point.

I guess you can take your time with the amp change John, knowing the system is performing so well as is.

I can't imagine a drummer hearing anything other than his drums. Does that mean the drummer should lead and the bassist keep time with them? Its a syncaptional thing, both the drummer & bass player are the engine room and should be as 'one' a good team will know and anticipate what the other is going to do and produce a tight cohesive under pinning that the gituarist / Keyboards can work off/ around /with.
All the very best bands have a crossbow tight Rhythm Section.

Whilst playing Martin Classical album choice Shostakovich Symphony No.10 I totally get Martin set up and why he has made his choices. His system is designed for something like this. My system gives a fair representation but will never do the kind of sound this track deserves. I have made other choices based on my own listening preferences that are unique to me that is geared to my own preferences. Music and system building is such a personal experience. 16 days ago I wrote the above. Life is ironic as perceptions can shattered by simple changes
I been playing around with RFI shielding, first using tape on the cable connectors and then on the grounding boxes. I would have been happy with that until Damien mentions the results he is getting from using RFI paint on his grounding box.
I started a few days initially just on the grounding box to the router and then to the spur (for my DAC) and then the next day also on the the box to the radial. At the time I just did one coat and left the bottom not painted.
Today I have painted the bottom of the boxes and given a second coat. Initial impressions a sense of more natural reverb at low level. I decided to increase the volume and blow me sideways the bass impact is more like a floor stander speaker. I decided to really test by playing Allegro form No. 10 symphony. It actually now sounds full scale I am not sure what has happen but bass has more authority and I can hear the orchestra different parts almost like I am at Martin but a different presentation I still do not have his bass but for this track I now have enough bass.
£11 pounds and a bit of time adding up to this level of performance in Mikes words "Bonkers"

Really pleased for you John, this is what l live for with this hobby. l plan more tests, and l actually think we will push things further, the potential uses is vast. The Bass....the increase and quality is amazing,l was thinking of turning the inuke down at times.
With this changes,it's like my set up was only hinting at things, now it's capable eating you alive.....Happy Days

Thing is, I really don't want to uglify my system with horrible black grounding boxes and I don't know whether the QAs can be opened up to get to the insides.
Will go carefully and try Damien's cardboard box around one idea, to see if I can hear any improvement.

And don't forget, you can use the G sheild as a undercoat, and repaint to any colour afterwards. l plan to do more sheilding tests, as the question will remain, and the rabbit hole, even if the quartz box may have sheilding, how effective is it actually? Anyway it's fascinating subject, and hopefully l can follow up with some more tests

A time for a reappraisal of the Gustard R26, my thoughts on it and the Gustard 26 range in general. The Gustard R26 is a ladder made DAC. It is well designed and like the rest of the range well made. In stock form its well balanced and excels in timbre. Detail is good, however looking back it lacks a bit of attack and has a degree of warmth added in the mid’s that you can hear on electric guitars. The internal streamer is easy to setup, however using DNLA it is a bit two dimensional. According to reports using Roon is a lot better, but I do not want to use Roon due to the costs. So why the need to reparse. Quite simply adding a quality clock changes the DAC drastically. To the extent that it is like a totally different DAC. I use the Leo Bodnar Precision Clock in silent mode (thanks Clive). No longer is it warm in the mid’s, nope mid’s are realistic. The sense of attack has changed also. Sounds just flow out and explodes when you not expecting them. I could gush for ages on just how good it sounds. I cannot really perceive a weakness to the sound. I know adding a clock works on the X26 and presume would work well on the A26. But honestly you have to let go of your perceptions on what you thought was possible from your DAC and just have a great big grin why uttering “man this is fxxxing good”. I keep coming back to the transformation of the DAC. Perhaps it should be called the R56 instead.

Well put John, and your completely right. It's always hard to convince and convey the difference the LB Clock has made in your set up,unless experienced,l guess the written word only goes so far.
It really transforms the R26 to a different beast.
The million dollar question...Where next ? 🤣
Graphene coated underwear anyone?
