That's interesting John, I've never found a noise issue with mine ...

It comes more as glare or harshness in the treble and think we heard within your system with the solo piano music that sounded distorted

I remember what you mean - I think in my case it was a poor recording; other piano recordings have fared much better but I will see if it crops up again ...

John, I tried a usb CD drive on the Limetree...it had better treble than files. Quite surprising.

So you are using an external CD drive via the USB to play music? I have not played a CD for years Clive do you have a link to the one you got

It's an Amazon sourced cheap DVD/CD drive. The Limetree is a little slow to read the CD at first but it works. It is powered by the Limetree, as Martin says self-powered could well be better, as you'd expect.

Really weird, it is backwards step in all streamers I have used with any external drive attached, maybe a decision Lindermann took when they designed the thing. Although When i chatted to them at Munich last year they were quite adamant that they were NOT going to produce any products with CD drives or HDD inside them from that point on-wards??
They firmly believed that streaming is the way forward and that is what the buying public are looking for.

For me, it's just an easy way to play CDs not on streaming. Another method is to rip them and put them on OneDrive. I can do either.

I think really is just that the usb port is there for sticks and drives so they might as well support a CD... it's not their preferred way to use the device.

I recently fried my PRV drivers and replaced them with the Beyma 5G40Nd/N - 5" 200W 8 Ohm Replacing the drivers with the Beyma I found them to have more detail but the midbass was a bit dry and lightweight. Drums in my system were no longer kicking it. Also listening to albums like Demon was a mixed blessing in the atmospheric parts it sounded great but often I end up tired listening to the album. The PRV drivers do a fantastic low mid in my system, drums are pretty special on the system, but they lack a bit of sparkle on the treble. My friend said if I got the repair kit for the PRV he re-cone the drivers so decided to take him up on his kind offer. I thought I could get a good price for the PRV if they did not work or sell the Beyma. Well sometimes out of misfortune a different approach can take shape. One that works better than the previous approach. I now get the best of both worlds. It has given the system more warmth, depth and made everything more musical I think the Baffleless approach benefits fro, an extra driver. It just makes it all so musical Beyma and PRV by John Cahill, on Flickr

I am really enjoying what this has done to my system The system no longer is dry and just gets on with playing the music

Every time I look at that picture of your speaker(s) I laugh. It's just so "wrong" in so many different ways. John. If it sounds good, to Hell with what it looks like though, eh?

Hahaha Trust me if I did not hear what Vic of Trans-Fi speakers can do I would have never gone down this route For me, it has been a journey from Box speaker to Open Baffles to almost baffle-less to going the full monty If anyone would have said a few years ago I would have gone down this route I would have thought they were crackers and no way I would thought the system could work. But this gives me a taste of the high-end at not so high-end prices The aesthetics are actually the hardest part But most of the times I have my eyes closed when listening to music

I had a few big loudspeakers before Wilson Benesch Actors and Wharfedale Opus 3 this set up is miles better at a fraction of the cost I perhaps could go a bit lower in the bass getting some Dayton drivers would certainly help with that but the bass is very fast and articulate which works for the taste of music I enjoy

Quite a few systems updates and not totally finished yet GOing to line array was a good move it meant I no longer experienced that coldness I would often complain about, getting the extra treble from the Beyma and that wonderful low mid punch from the PRV drivers I have tried a few power amplifiers, mostly class D I wanted something that would not struggle with my drivers. The one I settled with was the Temple Audio monoblocs with the superchargers powering this. A very musical amp and easy to just get drawn into the music as they have a good sense of flow This is an area I wanted my system to get better at for a while. Compared to the Black Tulip they have a similar mid, but more extended bass and a bit more detail up top with a further increase in the soundstage. I think having the Superchargers just makes sense they are basically a power supply with the use of supercapacitors to help with delivering clean current instantly which is critical with this type of design. At the moment my Limetree is in Germany having the Bluetooth being looked at. I am building an ASUS Tinkerboard but just waiting for a connector to power the Tinkerboard. I will then decide when I get the Limetree back which one I will keep. I have been doing a lot of research on master reclockers I had to be really careful with my budget so unfortunately I just cannot afford the Mutec so I discovered this. OEHLBACH 13904 XXL MasterClock Jitter Cleaner High-End USB It is only a USB device and resamples. Very impressed with the unit as gives a really deep soundstage and discovering instruments I did not know were on recordings. A great value unit. I am just loving how the music flows better and the sense of depth I now have. I know my speakers are not logical and look very industrial to see, but I usually listen with my eyes closed and very happy with the sound I get I would have to spend a small fortune to beat them. I will update after I compared the Limetree to the Tinkerboard I guess what my system is about is my attempt to get the best sound I can within a reasonable budget. Nothing in my system is expensive because in the line of work I choose to do I just do not get paid well
