My personal opinion is that I doubt the subtle audible effects can be measured with current equipment, any more than subtle cable differences can be measured. It's better to focus on what they can do for sound quality and musical flow. After all, that's what a hi-fi system is for. 8% is not subtle. Once I have finished the DIY projects that I have ongoing, I may purchase some fuses to see if they make the difference people are claiming. Obviously I only need the internal 5 x 20mm fuses, but I think it will be expensive, as I need 5 for my power and pre amps if my memory serves me correctly. That is a cool £650 got a subtle improvement. Hang on, that really makes no sense to me, as I could get another cartridge or something else for that money.

If you wish, I could dig out a screwdriver and check for you later. That would be good to know for those looking for an inexpensive solution. Okay..........The fuse is marked APH (12.5A)

I have never given a quantitative improvement figure and wouldn't even be able to. Why not just buy the fuses you need for your power amplifier only? They should give you the most improvement and you haven't spent as much if you don't like the results.

The fuse is marked APH (12.5A) Not one I've come across.

TBH, I personally have come to the conclusion that arsing about with cables, supports, fuses etc just gets in the way of enjoying music. These days I just listen. If I'm not enjoying the music, I do something else rather than fiddle about with accessories.

I find myself uncomfortable with a) such enthusiasm about fuses, b) such control over the range of topics relating to fuses. For that reason I observe this thread with incredulity.
I enjoy music and will gladly put up with quality shortcomings either by equipment or source material.
Last 24 hours I have been listening to Neil Young's 'Like a hurricane' a piece of music I love. To see the performance too is A++ so I have had to 'put up with' YouTube. Once that song starts I forget anything to do with quality and just go with the music. I've found several performances some better than others, but all enjoyable for what they are.
Trying different fuses would be absolutely pointless to the enjoyment of Neil's efforts.
While I have been doing that I see all sorts of postings to this thread,
I'm gettin' blown away To somewhere safer where the feeling stays.

dvh and AlanS, that's fine and so there's no need to comment any further in this thread.
To me, tweaking with a fuse and adjusting the upsampling in my Raspberry Pi have both given me 'wow' moments of late. However, I accept that there are a multitude of reasons for not doing so and we are each different.
One thing we can all agree on is it's all about the music.

That's interesting, Brian. The SR Blacks do seem to have a reputation as the 'black sheep' of the range! I don't have any so can't comment. I will say that the Reds take a little settling down but the Blues seem to perform straight out of the box. Lol...Maybe picked the wrong fuses in the range Martin . TBH I got the SR Black fuses at a price which was just about acceptable to me . It gave me the opportunity to try them and see/hear what all the fuss was about . I'm not sure I'm willing to spend £130 and have it blow . My consumer box trips under most circumstances but you never know ... Maybe if I come into some money

Thanks for that Brian. It's affirmation that my policy of going back to check after the honeymoon period is over is a vital step in the process of making changes to your system. It's not always going to be possible but people really ought to do it whenever they are able to. I always go back the way after giving a change in my system some time to bed in .

@davec, Were you to search EBay under SR Blue fuse you should be presented with a few vendors offering this product, I would recommend the initial case mounted 20mmx5mm fuse on the current rail of either pre or perhaps a better option your main amplification.

I believe that I had done so in reply to your PM ?

A measured and calculated 8% Could you tell me how you measured it and what did you use to measure it with please ? And the reference to "calculated" what was the calculation and how were the numbers obtained ? And please remind me of the fuse type/size/rating and in what position and I'll replicate it here to validate your results.

The methodology is quite straight forward, my CD player has an digital display of track time ergo positioning together with an intricate familiarity of previous audio replay at given points within my reference track of choice.
My pre amplifier Viz ARC Ref10 has an digital numerical display indicating attenuation levels at whichever point I desire to take an in room dB reading via mic and mobile app.
The calculation is arrived at using my previous standard attenuation level numeric as displayed on the pre Viz 86.

4Amp 20mm X 5mm slow blow, May I inquire as to how you are planning on replicating the experiment outside of my personal audio room and without my pre and amplification Dave?

I'm sorry, we must be talking at cross purposes here ? In my book this is neither measurement or calculation. But merely an estimation and hence not definable or repeatable. I'll leave it there. Dave

A more realistic method for most users would be to set up a dB meter 'A' weighted at a given distance with a dedicated test tone with a stock fuse. Perform the test say 6 six times to gain a mean average.
Then substitute the fuse and repeat test.
Dave C scientific method would be to use a Spectral Analyzer or similar device to ascertain a measurable difference between the two fuses I would suggest.

Wouldn't 'C' weighted be better?

No reason for you to abandon your intention, if that was really the case Dave, the information already having been made available to you.
Perhaps consider one or both of the test methodologies put forward by Mr Fluxed, I for one would be interested in the results of your own test method of choice.

Since we are now on page 50 of the thread some reliable measurements would certainly be useful - hasn't everything else been said now?
