Been a while coming for various reasons.
My office at home is Pioneer CD, Beresford Caiman DAC, Chord Integrated amp and Isobariks. Previously at work in my own office
Sounded ok, not wonderful as it used to
I don't spend hours and hours here so after some months I changed the switched mains socket for a unswitched on Tuesday.
First played James Taylor - October Road. Very well made and sounds good. Changed the socket.
Assumed I would hear a subtle difference *Big* step up in sound quality. Wish I'd done it a long time ago.
Still surprises me when I do this, I must be, in part, believing those who say it cannot make any difference. It can, it does.
Try it. Improve the sound for minimal dough

All my french sockets are unswitched. They sound the same as the UK switched ones I have switches on my quad speakers, and my amplifiers which switch the mains they supply to the various bits of equipment
It all sounds lovely

To be fair, changing sockets was another one that I thought was bonkers but again I was mistaken (wow that is twice I have admitted it recently)... the difference the un-switched socket made to my system was simply amazing!!

Yes it Made a surprising difference in my system as well. To such an extent that I got rid of all conventional sockets in my system.

You have guests, who aren't into HiFi, and you play them some music to listen to - remove the sockets from the wall and replace them with new ones - and ask people who weren't interested in HiFi to listen to them again and they hear a difference ?? I'd never get them back in the house

How many times did you switch back and forward between them? (I am not planning to take my HiFi back to the UK to check for sure, but I hear no difference)

Once. The difference was outstanding, more detail, crisper, tighter... really big deal.

Have you tried new switched sockets against old switched sockets ?
I wonder if being new is what makes a difference.
The switched double socket I use must be 40 years old.

Would something like an "ultrasonic cleaner" rejuvinate old plugs and sockets ?

Possibly, but make sure to turn the electricity off first.

I'm told those ultrasonic cleaners are very versatile.
Anyone tried cleaning CDs in one ?

Possibly, but make sure to turn the electricity off first. Listening to my HiFi with the electricity turned off is the answer? I knew I'd been going wrong somewhere You're right - the noise floor is - through the floor

The switched double socket I use must be 40 years old. Yup. Over the years new to new, old to old, new to old and old to new
