Hi Martin, with the new found resolution you have unearthed, have you considered Coherent cables? Ah I see, you meant the interconnects? Stand by on that one as I'm evaluating them right now. Precisely. It’ll be interesting to see how you get on with them this time. Are you evaluating the 6D or BD range?

6D interconnects. Last night I replaced an MCRU No. 9 (itself a very decent power cable) with a 6D power cable. This is the last non-Coherent power cable I had, feeding the QP-1 power supply for the digital streamer. I considered it my least important power cable, I think you'd agree? Ridiculously obvious difference, I still find myself shocked at the differences I can hear in a 1m power cable.

Still amazes me how mains cables, especially Coherent improve sound quality.
The better the system the more the improvement

Agreed, Coherent cables make a massive difference. Still can't believe there are people out there that don't believe cables can make differences.

Judging by what's for sale over on the AOS I can guess Martin's experience and decision

Judging by what's for sale over on the AOS I can guess Martin's experience and decision I'm not selling anything on AoS, I haven't been welcome there for years! Yes, the Coherent interconnects are really special. I'm still listening and evaluating but I haven't heard anything that gets close to their pinpoint focus and amazing transparency. I'll describe the differences more when I have time, but they're keepers.

I rate the whole 6D line, the RCAs included. Very quiet, dead neutral and yet vivacious and full of drive when the music demands it. Short of me me becoming a CEO / winning the lottery I’ll never change any cables again - they’re too good!

I'm getting there, David. It must be obvious to anyone that I'm in the end game. Selecting cables is pretty much the last thing to have some fun with. Go on with you! You enjoy tweaking and getting 'just that little bit more'. And there will always be that little bit more to be had.

Tweaking is allowed, Jerry.
However, the DAC I bought earlier this year is the last component change I expect to make in a long time. Contrary to popular opinion, my system has been remarkably stable over the past 5 years! I have removed two sources, rather than adding anything.

Very quiet, dead neutral and yet vivacious and full of drive when the music demands it. Yes, that describes the 6D interconnects very well. They have no brightness whatsoever yet the soundstage sparkles with tiny details and the dynamics are tremendous without that 'limiting' effect that some cables have.

I’m glad you found something you can be happy with; I find it’s a real relief to not find myself concerned about this anymore. I’ll bet your Ushers sound marvellous now!

I'm having a 0.8m 6D phono interconnect made up and luckily I can keep the 1m pair as loaners until they arrive The Black Cat is finally usurped, great cable that it is.

The 0.8m 6D cables are in, so I have my final cabling in place. I need to put some hours on the new 6D despite it having been cooked on a cable burner.
My system sounds very well balanced, the cables exerting no character of their own and just getting out of the way of the music. The speakers disappear like never before, not a bad trick for such big beasts. Music rises from dead silence and the dynamics are potent but without making themselves obvious. My lasting impression now is that all music sounds interesting, with something more to offer. This is almost regardless of the recorded quality - perhaps Coldplay excepted. Performers are there in a 3D space in front of me, not projected out as with the Black Cats, just naturally focussed in the plane of the speakers and with a great deal of depth. There is fantastic detail but it doesn't sound bright or harsh. Human voice is incredibly naturally portrayed. It's hi-res but very musical. Just what I've been pursuing for a while now.
There is only one step remaining: setting up the speakers on the Townshend Podiums when they arrive. That'll be some challenge.

I would offer to help with the Podiums, but with my back I reckon you would have to drive me to hospital double quick in the Scooby!

This evening I made four cables from three green grounding cables (one was much longer so I cut it in half). I had to repair two others where the cotton surround was fraying, too. I used screw-terminal crocodile clips and did not solder any terminations, in keeping with SGS's practise. I also used hot glue heat-shrink, wonderful stuff that shrinks and glues itself in place, so there should be no more fraying. Planning on doing this with mine. Seems easy enough?

It is easy, you just can't rush it. Well worth it to get the grounding connections you need.
