speedysteve I'd like your thoughts on these tracks if they exist on Tidal.

I had a very quick sneak listen with my new SGS-1s Signature grounding box in place (I had really wanted to connect it up to give it time to settle).
I'll write it all up properly but wow, musical insight is just flowing from my system right now.

The verdict is in: the new larger grounding box makes the system sound even more 'real' than before. I use that word intentionally as it just allows music to pour out without any thoughts of bass, treble, noise floor, dynamic range or anything like that. Completely immersive.
I can just select music, play and enjoy all evening.

Martin
You are now getting towards the whole pointing of grounding systems, the more natural and easier following the sound becomes, a lot of folks have trod this path and enjoy it immensely, plus you are just at the tip of the iceberg, the more points you add in the right place from your system the more the effect will improved.
It is addictive.

you are just at the tip of the iceberg Andrew of SGS is suggesting that I connect a grounding cable to the P10 regenerator. I can certainly stick a plug with only an earth pin into a spare socket. Is it a good idea to mix this with my signal earth connections so far? I do have a spare cable.

Personally I would keep them separate, one of your boxes for EARTH, the other for ground imho

Ok, thanks. I'm on a winner with signal ground so I'll leave it be for the moment.

Not wanting to trawl back and not find it.. what Lan cable are you using Martin? You mentioned an audiophile one you have..
Not sure how much different it would make for me as I have a Cat6 cable run for what must be 20m (installed in the walls) from the master router where the master socket is to my music room router.. The connection is just as fast and reliable, same ping too though.
But it might be worth trying, esp if there is a try before you buy deal out there..

Martin uses the same cable as I do "Melcord"

Cool.
One audiofool one I saw was priced at over £600!
I might fancy making my own pure silver, or other at that price.
But the one you use is affordable. Might try to find out what cable they use though. Just love making stuff..

MeiCord. MCRU sell them, much easier than when I was trying to source one.
The LAN isolator makes a difference, too.

Yes agree the Lan isolator is another notch up but a bit more expensive

Martin, you use Ethernet as a means to deliver music to your DAC, whereas I don’t stream anything, all of my music is held locally on my PCs ssd; the only thing I use Ethernet for is to remote control the music
Bearing this in mind, Do you think that a decent LAN cable and isolator would benefit the sound quality of my system? I read that just being connected this way brings noise to the system.

Taking care of the ethernet feed (MeiCord cable, LAN Isolator, linear PSU for router) is all about the delivery of streamed music for me. I doubt it'll make any difference for just controlling playback. You'd be better off spending your money on noise reduction to benefit the system, especially in keeping that PC quiet (RFI wise).

I was listening to the Peter Gabriel 4 remaster on Spotify this evening. It's outstanding and sounds very close to the SACD. Finally there are real dynamics! The songs are my favourite of all his output and have not aged one bit since its release back in 1982.
Try Shock the Monkey for some real impact.

I've been experiencing the dawning realisation that streaming has completely worked for me and there's no going back to spinning discs again. I'm therefore selling the Ayre in order to raise funds to reinvest elsewhere in the system. It's a great machine and I shall miss it but I'd rather it find a new home than gather dust in mine.

Do you think you'll rip all of your CDs and combine spotify with file-based playback?

I will rip the very few CDs I have which are not on Spotify, as I have done with a few favourites to date, and put them on my WD NAS drive for Volumio to play. I can also use my very capable Pioneer BDP-LX55 Blu-ray player as a transport for CD/SACD/DVD-A should I have a pressing need to play something silver.

The only real bottleneck in my system is the DAC, so I'm thinking about it and researching lots. If I plug that gap, my system will be well balanced and I will then be very happy. If I go for the one I have my eye on, it may even be possible to take the preamp out of the system, although that would require careful comparison.
I have the Pi, DigiOne, SEG and Spotify to thank for taking me in this direction, I have never enjoyed music as much as I am now. This would be the icing on the cake.
