I'm starting to get serious with Spotify Premium now, as it already sounds so good and is allowing me to evaluate music like never before. I've just ordered Jon Hopkins' Immunity as a result of a wonderful listening session last night. This is potent music and the Pi made a potent sound!
What I'm running so far: Raspberry Pi 2 with HiFiBerry Digi+ in a HiFiBerry metal case. Olimex wi-fi adapter. Battery running both Pi (5V) and DAC (12V). Beresford optical cable. Caiman SEG DAC. Volumio 2 music streaming software.
Future upgrades: convert Digi+ for direct 5V supply. Possible upgrades to Digi+ Pro (waiting for Volumio compatibility) and Pi 3. Experiment with supports and damping. Better fuse inside the Caiman.

I've been trialling a DC blocker in my system with very good results. It's a keeper! See here.

I would certainly recommend going to Digi+ Pro. Made a big difference when I was using my Pi. Still might as I still have it fitted and will use it if circumstances dictate.

I'm hoping to move to one, Greg, as soon as Volumio is confirmed as being compatible. Meanwhile, changing power arrangements to provide DC directly to the Digi+ board really helped to lift SQ.

Oddly enough Tony is putting a DC blocker into my Audio Magic box as the Belles monos were noisy at times I hope for equally good results.

If you get the same results as me, Mike, you're going to love it.

Having heard Jeff Buckley's Lover, You Should've Come Over, from the Grace album at The ASBO, and knowing how bright and shouty it can be when not well reproduced, I resolved to play it last night on my system. I have both a 180g vinyl pressing and the CD. surprisingly, the CD is very good and close to the vinyl in SQ. The song has tremendous presence and a good degree of power and welly. The 'shoutiness' comes later in the song when he ramps up his singing and emotional writhing.
I found that my system conveyed the huge midrange clarity very well, holding the song's power together without breaking into further brightness towards the end. Its impact is mesmerising, a wonderful song that perhaps I hadn't given enough attention to in the past. I love the downbeat minor-key feel to it, and Buckley's singing is at its best. I wonder what he might have given us in later years had he lived?

I dug out my vinyl copy of Grace and played it in comparison with CD. It's also good but a little different sounding: it doesn't have the punch of the CD, has a bigger soundstage and is just a tiny bit less 'together' overall than the excellent CD mastering. The LP is on the Music on Vinyl label and I'm trying to establish if it was mastered from an analogue or digital source.

The ORG 2x45rpm is all analogue, mastered by Bernie Grundman, and it sounds excellent if you can find a copy.

Thanks, Chris. I'll stay with the CD which is, as I said, excellent.
MOV don't list the single LP album of Grace any more, just the Grace EPs set.

The MOV distributer sends me a 1500+ line excel sheet every Friday for me to order stuff, the JB single LP will come back in sometime in the future I am sure. I think I own every single version of that LP and its only for 1 track! Don't like the rest.

Ah yes. I still prefer Cohen's performance, it's a great song.

I had the pleasure of hearing Martin's system over the weekend and I have to say I was massively very impressed.
Those monster speakers are just that, they are huge and pack a massive punch.
As others have told me, Martin does like to listen to his system loud, but what impressed me the most was the lack of fatigue, on a poorly implemented system I find it can sound great at first but after a while you just want to turn the volume down.
The Ushers are similar in presentation to my Focal's, although the Usher's have an even better vocal and their bass depth and drive is immense, I seriously kept looking for a sub as I couldn't believe the speakers had that much bass. I even remarked that if my system was like a V6 engine, Martin's was a V48.
The thing that impressed me most however, was that the system played quite pieces with subtlety and smoothness and the larger than life speakers disappeared, Martin played one particular female vocal (Edie Brickell) and it sounded amazing, so calm and relaxed but with massive detail, presence and the sound stage was out of this world.
Really gives me some thoughts for my system, which now sounds very closed in and bass light in comparison.
