Not exactly vintage then - very frustrating...

I'm in contact with Trackdown Treasures at the moment. You can't proceed to checkout with any of the three listed.

Not exactly vintage then - very frustrating... I've used it a lot, pretty much every day of those 11 years. Some 8,000 hours of running.

I am so happy my Rega Isis has a lifetime guarantee with 2 spare mechs held at Rega

Can't argue with that Mike, and a damn fine machine. I believe Naim are also pretty good in keeping good stocks of spares...

One of the reasons I left Naim was because I heard some models did not have any spares left

Ayre were stockpiling until a couple of years ago. I guess they must have replaced a lot of mechs.

It's a b*gg*r for you Martin. I expect you'll find a spare and good luck with your quest.
It's a sign of the times....throw away technology. Don't give up on radical alteratives though. I didn't think I'd be able to put together a files based setup with redbook which trounces both my record decks. I'm still in shock.

Good news - I persuaded a US Amazon trader to ship to the UK. A used Pioneer DV-45A now ordered! Let's hope the drive mechanism transplant is straightforward.
As for radical alternatives, I was considering a high end multi-format Blu-ray player (something like a Pioneer BDP-LX88) as transport feeding the Caiman SEG DAC. This would be slightly sub-optimal for SACD (probably transcoded for S/PDIF) but I know the Caiman well and it's very nearly at the performance level of the Ayre.

Big problem: it doesn't play any of my hi-res formats!

Just don't do what I did after Christmas. I was intending to transpose a laser from a Technics SL-P111 to a SL-P1200. Removed the cover, clamp, front panel, transport screws and connectors from the 111. Pulled ------ and forgot about the laser ribbon cable. Result. Cable still connected to board, snapped, while the transport was in my hands. Couldn't believe I could have been so stupid to forget about it.

The Pioneer DV-45A 'donor' machine is shipping. Seems a shame to be stripping it down for the transport, but if it rejuvenates the Ayre then I'll be well pleased.

Shame as you say but if you cannot buy a transport it has to be

Hopefully it brings the Ayre back to life.
