Somewhat embarrassed to confess that my box of ethernet cables weighs in at close to 50 pounds! There are all manner of brands and varieties remaining from projects over the years. Had many Ugreens but only one long enough to fit.

Any reason you opted for Cat7,when CAT 8 is available? Good question: it was a direction given by my Thai friend and an inkling that the Cat7 cables, being the first to include double-shielding (twisted pairs and overall), and high bandwidth, would be more carefully, and expensively, constructed. I also trust uGreen, been using their cables at work for a long time and they're well made. Their ethernet to USB adapters are the only ones I know that don't need drivers across the board, even for Macs. This one also looks well designed if you look at the exploded image above. Remember, the uGreen Cat7 replaced a Supra Cat8.

AQVox use Cat. 7 as the basis of the cables they build. For a reason I guess.

Is that 2 items from industry then Martin ? Cisco and Ugreen ? So far, Mike. I can't think of many although quite a few people like the Finisar optical products, too. Cisco-Meraki network switches and wi-fi. TP-Link straddle domestic and industry, too.

l suspect it simply down to construction, for the reason on good performance. l only mentioned the CAT8 from Ugreen as the obvious gain it's faster and covers larger bandwidth, but looking at the site, it's a similar construction, sheilded pure copper, twisted and gold pin connectors.
The positives there both cheap to purchase, the negatives l've only just swapped out CAT8.1 to CAT 6. Nice find Martin
Update... l've bitten, just order 5 x CAT7 & 5 x CAT8 at 0.5m... l'll look forward to hearing.

Your findings with Cat7 chime with mine when I tried out a SupraCat8 instead of my Meico Cat 7 cable. The differences were not subtle either. The Supra Cat 8 didn't last long.

I received the 0.25m lengths of 'uGreen' only to find they're a different brand of Cat7. Amazon are playing stock games again.
I'll try them first, not much point sending them back as they cost peanuts. Irritating.
STET: I checked my order more carefully and there must have been a glitch in the matrix when I clicked on the 0.5m version. I've done it again carefully and now the brand description says uGreen so I've ordered them again.
Perhaps I'm trying to build my box of cables (which is quite substantial) to match that of Nick's?

I couldn't find 0.25 Ugreen CAT 7 on Amazon,only 0.5 on CAT7.
I had to source the 0.5 CAT 8 via ebay. To confuse things further.. Ugreen also do a Flat cable in 7 & 8, that similar in construction.

Sorry, I did reorder 0.5m uGreen Cat7.
I don't trust and have avoided flat cables. The twisted pairs are complex enough without flattening them for convenience.

No what you mean reference Flat type, think l've only used it once, due to running under a carpet.

Have been considering matching my cables at the router end. Was going to use Meicord Opals.
For significantly less, uGreen Cat7 could be beneficial perhaps?

The 0.5m uGreen Cat7 'tails' are now in, between the DXE filters and router/EtherREGEN to replace their supplied patches. This makes the whole ethernet run made uniformly from whatever nylon-braided magical cable the uGreen is made from that sounds so outrageously good. Done like this, I can hear how comprehensively it outperforms the Supra in upper-mid transparency, bass tightness (and, boy, is it tight) and general openness.
There are no direction markers so I made sure to set direction according to curvature as I always do with unmarked cables.
What a great upgrade for the cost of a few biscuits!

As I don't buy biscuits I already have the budget !
Please explain set direction according to curvature
Too late for me on the main 1 metre, but will help on the tails

Please explain set direction according to curvature No, I have my own system and it depends on whether you subscribe to Russ Andrews' theory that cables acquire their direction as opposed to have it preset.
