I quite like the 'What is Love' track. Having another listen now.
Not too much via headphones. And not veiled either. Enough going on it could be muddy on some systems. Think her voice and the space around it help the song veer away from overpowering.

It's a really well done cover version of the 1993 dance pop anthem from Haddaway. Much darker than the original. Enjoyed it on my phone, will enjoy it more booming from the system when possible.

I forgot to mention that growling circular bass line. Nice and grunty but not overdone.

The Coherent BDM power cable is still burning-in. I heard a small step change last night. Frustratingly, I can only burn it in when I'm listening as I turn the P10 regenerator and power amp off when not there, to save about 80W of idle power. I did leave it on last night, though, and will through the weekend to speed it up a bit.
The change I'm hearing is that everything short of the absolute worst recordings remains listenable at my normal volume level of -13dB. Fatigue is way down and so is harshness.

BD on the left, new BDM in gold on the right. Both plugged into a Coherent unswitched cryo treated double socket.

An afternoon's music courtesy of MartinTMany changes in the system. Has it really been 3 years ?! Playing tracks we both know well with a few new ones to both of us thrown in Lots of bass, mid range well forward with lots of detail. A little more leading and trailing edge on instruments Separation increased but different to what my system does My toe was tapping so it must pass the PRAT test Both feet, legs and various body parts moved so it must have exceeded the PRAT test Glorious listening to the chosen tracks which had me thinking I must listen to more of my very favourite artists, albums and tracks more, certainly on the main system. Big reason for the visit was to work out what makes up high end streaming system. Still working that out Mistake not to take a db reading so comparisons to my system on the same tracks will be by ear Would have stayed longer but was going to turn into a pumpkin More on my Quest for more music when I have listened to some tracks

Was great seeing you, MikeMusic , yes it really had been three years! I hope the streaming question was at least partially answered in that you've heard what it can do. I believe we only played two actual hi-res tracks so it was mostly a Red Book session. Direct CD versus stream. Glad that you enjoyed the music and the Proper crisps

I tried making up a pair of tweeter focus rings as an experiment. I know Russ Andrews has promoted them for years and I had just been wondering whether they improved the sound. A quick experiment was done so that I could have a listen. Here's before and after for both tweeters. The material is 3mm EPDM rubber. Well, that was a valuable lesson and the rings quickly came off again! What they achieved was a horrible beaming of the treble while making the speakers more obvious, with the soundstage adversely affected. Removing them restored the natural treble content without bringing attention to itself or the speakers. Even though this one was a failure, I do enjoy such experiments. How else do you learn?

Worth a try and is easily reversible

I had attempted a similar experiment several years back with what were being touted in the journals as diffraction rings. They were felt rings that fit around the tweeters which rendered less than optimal effects. Mine have been doing drawer duty ever since.

Get a couple of yoghurt pots, cut the bottoms, add some Blue-Tac and, voila, horns!

I thrashed a couple of whippets regularly for two weeks, still couldn't perfect a Yorkshire accent, even took up ecky thump still no joy, so just purchased a Wadia and it all went downhill from there

A much better tweak: I took Tony's advice on fitting an SR Orange fuse into the pre-system power cable from the P10 regenerator. This feeds the router, EtherREGEN and 1st clock. I wasn't going to do it this month because money. However, I accumulate barrel loads of Nectar points and eBay accepts them The SR Orange is a better Red without any tonal tilt whereas Purple is a whole different level of transparency with a touch of brightness that needs to be balanced out. Tony was right and the Orange in this position has kept tonality the same but given me a frankly surprising lift in dynamic swing. I only have Oranges in the regenerators and this has impressed upon me that I can go about changing all my Reds for Oranges in the future*. * turns out I only have two Reds left, in the power amp and 2nd master clock.
