What I *should* have done was ask them to get Openreach to move our copper connection to a closer fibre cabinet - forgot
Doubt they would have done it but you never know

I could only wish. My cabinet is out on the A30 and there is no closer one. That's why I struggle to make 20Mbps (it's 16 at the moment).

If enough push for the closest cabinet there is maybe a change will happen 11mb is what we have currently

The trouble is the villagers are closer so they won't push for any more.

We have a few around us so a swap to closer would benefit us. Perhaps others would benefit from swapping from theirs to ours

Today is cutover day. Let's see if things move over smoothly to Plusnet.
Experience tells me something will go wrong.

What I *should* have done was ask them to get Openreach to move our copper connection to a closer fibre cabinet - forgot Doubt they would have done it but you never know There may well be closer cabinets, but the reason you're connected to the one you're on is because of exchange routings. The other nearby cabinets are likely to be hooked up to a different exchange altogether. Just because you can see it doesn't mean it's the closest to the exchange, or even your exchange.

The menders said Openreach wouldn't do it. Don't get if you don't ask.

Broadband is up and running too. Plusnet were as good as their word and their router is just like a BT Hub 5, made by Sagem, and picked up the connection first time. A quick bit of setup to disable both Wi-Fi bands and all is working well.
QED.

I've just had a meeting with our service provider at work, Exponential-e, who have been excellent over a number of years. I asked for a quote to go up to 1Gbps on our current 300Mbps leased line. Much to my surprise the cost to upgrade on a new 3-year contract has decreased from £840 per month to £600 per month. Bring it on!
Before you say I could go cheaper, we are going almost 100% cloud services over the next year or so and I need a managed line with reliability and a great SLA. The likes of Virgin, Sky and TalkTalk need not apply and BT are far too expensive.

Can't you fiddle a gigabit line at home, for " off-site diagnostics and maintenance," Martin?

LOL, including the laying in of several kilometres of fibre from the cabinet on the A30 down our lane to my house? Yep, that should come in cheap!!
