Check out the current price from Zen Surprisingly low for us.
You'll get a special deal from Plusnet as a new customer but if Zen are not far off they may fix the problem and be the best bet

Zen are £8 more expensive for the same speed/service than Plusnet. Since Openreach service the FTTC network in either case, I see no point in paying more.

Zen are the top in customer service plus I noticed they say they will never put the price up. Plusnet renewal time might be the time to change, when the new user discount goes

BT got the Hub to me today. As I thought, it's just another Hub 6 Type A (Smart Hub). I duly connected it up, disabled wi-fi and performed a speed test. Pretty much as before, about 15Mbps.
Since it's the line speed and not the router, I shall cancel on the 8th and go with Plusnet. I don't see why I should pay more than necessary for a rubbish service. Then I can use them to get to Openreach without all the blocking, script adherence, 'forgetting' and foreign support that BT do.

Plusnet confirmed today that I can keep the landline number and that they will do all of the notice of termination work with BT. Good, as I'm fed up of spending hours of my time dealing with people I can barely understand.

Time's up. BT failed and are overpriced. I've signed up for Plusnet.
I'll look at our mobiles next, but I do have a great deal for the music room router with BT at £20 for 30GB which will be hard to beat.

I have it on good authority that they'll "do you proud," although that may only apply to subscribers living to the North of the Watford Gap.

Plusnet have mobile deals for customers..... I've looked, Mike, and can't see an equivalent. Plusnet are on the EE network so I get 4G which is important. I'll keep trying although I'll stay with BT if necessary as their mobile provision has been faultless.

Maybe it only appears once you are a customer Signing in gives that impression I see loads of deals I have no idea if they are good, bad or indifferent. If I refer you we might both get a bit off or is that to late now ?

I was looking for specifically 30GB at £20 as that is what I get from BT.

After a glitch where Openreach refused the order - apparently my postcode didn't match the phone number which is strange considering they've been supplying me for over two years - the order has been accepted and I've already received the "sorry you're leaving us" e-mail from BT.
So Plusnet is on its way. Next will be to leverage BT not to increase our mobile tariffs (loss of discount due to not having the landline) under threat of moving them away, too.

Useful reduction in monthly rent if you pay annually upfront....

Had a look around at various broadband companies
Plusnet could well be the least worst, often the case. Horrific reviews for some suppliers BTW
One chat wth Plusnet Quoted me a price. Said I can do a lot better. Price dropped by £8 a month That will do
Payment of phone annually up front makes rental £2 a month cheaper - I'll take that.
"I can't take that payment. You have to ring in. Must be before contract starts"
Go to phone
"Ping" no dial tone. Try other phones "Ping"
Wait and try again "Ping"
Never had that before.
Wait and try again an hour or so later "Ping"
Hmm.
What other phones are there..... One phone in my office not checked. Check, listen to not much at all. May have been a faint ping Put phone back, listen again
Dial tone !
Yay !!!!
Ring to pay. Message says you can pay their website so I start that off - but hang on with the phone as well Wait and wait and wait Nowhere can I pay on the website
After eternity passes, eventually answered. Softly spoken support female, explain what I want to do
Ok...... "Cannot take the payment. Will go and find out why."
Few minutes later
Please ring back on the 17th, start of contract and try again
Notes *have* been made on our record
Why is life always so very simple ?!

Gosh, I phoned Plusnet to ask them about continuing with our current landline number, they answered quickly and reassured me. On the day of BT end-of-contract, I did everything including build-my-package (no free calls package, yes to free router, no I don't want filtering etc.) and it all went through, taking my payment.
The only glitch was with Openreach and that was resolved by Plusnet who once again answered promptly and sorted it while I was talking to them.
Impressed so far.

It does make me laugh when I think that BT owns both Plusnet and EE, two services that are far above their level of support.

Would have been 100% straightforward if I hadn't wanted to pay upfront. I can grab defeat from the jaws of victory
