That was taken in Yellowstone NP in 2005 Paul. The white stuff is part of a massive deposit of mineral salts that are contained in the water that oozes up from the volcanic sýstem below the surface. The trees did well to survive for a bit, but they just couldn't hack it in the end!

It's a bit odd taking a seat when you've got 74,475 empty ones to choose from!

Isn't it just? It's interesting to learn that they couldn't decide what to do with it after the war. It was one of the few places in Berlin that were relatively unscathed but there was the desire to remove all traces of the previous regime. It was the British army HQ for a while and when it finally lay empty, there were several schools of thought: flatten it and rebuild a new one, leave it and use it or allow it to decay in the hope it might look like the Coliseum in Rome. Glad they chose to keep it.

Impressive and scary remembering what went on in that stadium - and what happened after
In case you didn't know Another thing the British Army saved - VW

I had a day off work and took the opportunity to give the dog a proper walk. We went exploring some limestone pavement not far from here, close to the Lancashire / Cumbria border. What an amazing landscape.

Great shots there Chris. You got a good eye for perspective and camera positioning.

We went out today hoping to get some distance shots of a huge storm that was rolling around the southern Lake District and Morecambe Bay but we ending up taking piccies of wading birds and things on the Bowland tops.

Nice shots. We had that storm overhead last night, boy was it loud!

There was a period of about 40 minutes this afternoon when there was a constantly changing but unbroken rumbling of thunder. Pretty impressive!

Bridge to BridgeI took the mutt for a walk this evening along a section of the Lancaster Canal that I've never been on (despite it being only about a mile and a half away from home). There is a massive contrast in the landscape between the bridge that I parked the car beside and the one that we walked to. Photos are pretty good considering they were taken on a phone with an extremely enthusiastic spaniel tugging hard on the lead. The lead didn't stop the mad mutt from going in and getting soaked!
