Life can sometimes be ironic a few days I posted a link to a rear facing speaker. Not my idea of pretty.......but.
I just heard theses latest creations and these beasts will not be for sale as only a few people would tolerate these speakers for their looks
So what is this beast
It basically just a frame with the bass drivers (Selenium Neos 15" x 2) firing towards the wall the full range drivers (PRV 5MR450-NDY)
I first heard these in a traditional Open Baffle set up and was very impressed around the same level of the LX521 (except a bit of treble harshness) without the need for a 5 way active system. They rocked better than my system but occasionally the treble would draw attention to itself I threw a variety of music at them The Pink Panther Dream Theater The Dance of Eternity and A Horse with no name and boy they did the rock.
Next was the framed system same drivers set up same system with the same songs but just using the frames. My first impression on the Pink Panther track was more natural,, bigger sound-stage, the treble harshness total gone . Next up was Dream Theater. I was transfixed from the first bit of kick drums I heard I had this crazy grin on my face and saying to myself WTF I never heard all the instruments on this before no matter what I played it on it always sounded a bit held in, not this time though the music made sense. The impact is like nothing I heard before.
I then tried waking the Witch; Full Church Bells ringing
Next Up Bireli Lagrene Inferno this is the album that opened my ears to Jazz I used to find the title track a bit hard to listen to, but now it just makes musical sense.
Last but not least was John Zorn Korojang A Japanese drum fest. I cannot remember the last time just feeling shocked with what I was hearing The scale and power. A system like this you might guess would not move the floor but it did. This was music you felt deep in your gut but captured all nuances too.
So my plan is convert my Open baffles (sell the drivers and replace with this. Try it forward facing first (I am a traditionalist first, then rear facing if not happy, then frame if still not happy.
Another surprise was no room modes, bass was kicking no matter where I went in the room
In summary The system does dynamics like nothing I heard before but also has depth No matter what I threw at it just was totally engrossing
