Which way are the big drivers phased? First peak positive towards the back wall, or firing out at you? Must be out onto the room or the bass would be late.
I've seen backward fitting before, but not heard. Shouldn't be any difference in sound at bass frequencies either way. Wouldn't work with baskets and mags in the way at higher freqs...

Remember these are dipoles so fire both ways Bass is incredibly tight

Listening to the same tracks on my system as the test I have a nice Open sound but it just does not have the same sense of scale or transient attack and my speakers are considered quite good this way

John, do you put the differences down more to the drivers or to the layout?

I think the drivers at this moment It should work in my Open baffles as they are quite minimal but using a U Frame Open baffle definite the frame makes a positive difference. In comparison a good few % difference between U Open Baffles and a frame. Time will tell I will bring my baffles to Vic in a few weeks and we soon find out I think no real difference between back and forward placement just think Vic found easier to mount this way (and likes the radical looks) but find out in a few weeks. I think the PRV is a very good driver and the Neos keep up with them which has been the challenge since experimenting For me it about the difference going active can make, rather than mechanical (baffle size). No crossovers to rob the sound off dynamics and a simple set up makes a lot of sense. I might even go down the route of the Temple One at some point as be easy to get the TT to run with this but that's for another time.

I would have thought that the rear magnet would cause rear radiation to be more rolled off in the upper mid/treble compared with forward facing.

Those 15 inch bass drivers hand over the 5 inch wideband unit at 180Hz with a slope of 12db/octave so orientation isn't really an issue. It's still at an experimental stage but it seems to be very good already. I'm itching to hear them.

Ok, I hadn't realised the crossover frequency was so low.

Lots of learning I would guess no issues in sound quality with speakers faced forward Can it get away with a minimalistic open baffle approach like mine time will tell No ideas even if they work in my room yet But from what I heard I have to find out

The latest adaptions to the beast are some new bass drivers "Dayton B385" It now has astonishing bass impact this goes incredibly low and shakes the floors. Certainly extremely dynamic and open Great for causing mini earthquakes!

I met up at Vic yesterday He had some new Dayton bass drivers Dayton Audio RSS390HF-4 15" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm They not the easiest to drivers to drive and even with two Berhingers working as Mono blocks the Invicible Flower of Beauty will trip them out due to the long sustained bass notes. But they give even tighter and puncher bass than his previous bass drivers. Certainly move lots of air but capable of very detailed bass and will go subsonic

You're certainly exploring the infra-bass area these days, John. What are the mid and treble like?

Yes they certainly do ultra bass Early days with the bass driver as only a few hours so more to come from them in the upper bass region The PRV handle mid and treble and has a wonderful openess so no issues with Mid and treble. For scale I think very hard to match the combination. The whole approach just throws everything up in the air with regards to what is possible at reasonable costs. But unfortunatly the looks are to minimalistic for most.

Yes the made the approach a lot simpier Will go lower than the drivers I use and the same sense of scale and detail I get in the mid and treble
