-4C this morning but no ice. -1C on my way home, some snow but not really settling on the road. Tomorrow morning could be slippery but the news doesn't half big it up. It's winter and February, for goodness' sake. Get over it!! Absolutely, it's just pathetic how this country seemingly goes to pieces whenever the temperature approaches freezing. Transport companies start whingeing about 'extreme weather' causing delays. It's only cold if you're not prepared for it!

Is something going on? I find not having a TV and only reading important world news makes for a much more relaxed life. The media do talk a load of old twaddle a lot of the time, really great to be out of that loop

It was -5C this morning, at least that's getting into whinge territory!

In my first job after college, I worked in South-West Scotland and I used to get to my place of work first in order to unlock the gates, so the staff could get in. One morning, we had a 14 below frost and I was late because of a flat tyre. I came down the road to the gate, to see my boss, a particularly bad tempered little man, at the best of times, hunched down, looking very closely at the floor. Confused, I parked behind him, got out and heard his muffled, expletive filled rant: " hmmmm-nnnmmmmggghhhh...bastaaaaaad....ffuggginnnnn.....shite.....hmmmm-nunnnng....."
Me: "What's wrong, Bob?"
Him: " hmmmm-nnnmmmmggghhhh...bastaaaaaad....ffuggginnnnn.....shite.....hmmmm-nunnnng....."
He had tried to defrost the padlock by blowing on it and his lips were stuck to the icy metal. I had to pour hot coffee from a flask onto his face to free him. It was so hot that he recoiled and ripped the skin off his lips anyway!

Ow ow ow ! -3.5 when I first looked, then -4 half hour later oops. Recovered now to a balmy -1.7 If I need the car and the screen is frosted over I put either cold or luke warm water over it. No need for hot or boiling.

What's made me laugh about 'The Beast' snow threat, is that so far I could have sneezed more snow than we have got here! Still making me laugh today, we had a light fluttering of snow overnight, but it has all but melted now.

Quite. The "Beast" indeed
The birds know. Only light feeding on the feeders.
Worry when they say
"No problem"

We're snowed in up here . I live about 10 minuted from the M80 where all the cars have been stuck overnight . Luckily I missed the bad bit , I finished at 7.30am yesterday , but a 20 minute journey turned into a 2 hour one and I got home at 9.30 . I'll be going nowhere for the next 2 days . We're doomed captain Mainwaring .

Stepson was at Uni in Durham. He said winters up there were *bitterly* cold. You're some distance North of that !

Still making me laugh today, we had a light fluttering of snow overnight, but it has all but melted now. Whoop, whoop, we have actually had a decent snow covering, overnight. I wouldn't exactly call it Beast like, but it is enough that I wouldn't want to drive a rear wheel drive car very far... Luckily I don't own one

Hah ! Can't drive a car here at all Paul ( well maybe one of them big 4 x 4s ). I've just spent a few hours digging mine out this morning . 50-60cms of snow I think . I work for the NHS and will have to make an attempt at moving it on Saturday to go to work . Hopefully things will have settled down a bit by then

Thinking of rear wheel drive cars I was surprised to learn from the boss that her Saab 9-5 is rear wheel drive. Working on the basis that the Boss is always right. That must be the only one they made with rear wheel drive
