I've had a (comparable) Topping 2 with a pair of Denon bookshelfers in my garage and they sounded just fine - also tried little Quad L-ites with no problem. Obviously not the thunder and oomph of a living room set-up but just fine for casual toons with plenty of clarity. Music supplied by an old Mac through the 'original' Beresford DAC (1720 or some such?). Did indeed distort if cranked open though.
Advantage of both sets of speakers was they were light and very portable. The Q-Acoustics 1010i are equally fine - and small (if you can still get them). We used to use the little JBL monitors where I worked and I was never fond of them (also quite heavy for their size)

I'd have recommended Cubetttes in a heartbeat if they didn't weigh as much as an anvil.........each. You could always DIY a pair with a lighter cabinet damping. I'm still intending to do just that.

I'm not talking about loud, but the limiting nature of T-Amps is not a pretty sound. In short, they don't clip well!

Ive found sticking an active pre in front of them gives them a much easier time. Stans Capella makes a fine active pre for sensible money if you want to stick to 12v or a battery(does its day job as a HPA very well...I know Tim likes his cans!)
Ive also used a FIIO 5 with a mobile player, not the last word in sonics but gives the T amp a boost.

Living in an apartment I guess? But I'm not really into loud anymore, when I was a yoof yes, but I just don't enjoy it ramped up anymore. Odd really, but then my music tastes have changed too.

It doesn't go that loud through my Fostex PC speakers before I can hear the T-Amp limiting, Tim. I built a nice big 14V linear power supply for it, too.

They are, but one doesn't look a gift horse in the mouth Means I can also bring more bags of coffee beans out with me next trip home, rare as rocking horse poo around here, unless you buy them at Starbucks for 4 times the price of back home! I have yet to buy anything in there yet, it's eyewateringly expensive compared to other outside drink outlets, but yet it's always full of young locals. There are a lot of very well off Chinese here and they are obsessed with brands and image.

Thread drift I know, but it's my thread Here's an interesting article about China's growing coffee culture - www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2015/may/18/spilling-the-beans-chinas-growing-coffee-cultureI went to a local café/bakery the other day and asked for an Americano, the girl didn't understand so I had to point at a menu card, which said Americano SM or LGE. She smiled and shortly after the barista presented me with an iced Americano! I had a heck of a job then trying to explain I wanted a hot one and the menu didn't give a choice, it just said Americano! They had to go and find someone from another shop nearby who came back and translated that I wanted "American coffee, hot" Now they know me and show me a cup with the word HOT written on it, before making my coffee Incidentally it's very good coffee and a third the price of Starbucks, which is three doors down. But it's always empty and Starbucks is always full - it's all about the brand. Daft buggers!

Yes, the Hong Kong people used to have that reputation for buying new only and using their possessions as a status symbol.

Good grief - by my calculation (and the figures provided in that article), the cost of one coffee per day in a Starbucks is 15% of the average salary. Another good reason to avoid Starbucks!

Apart, that is, from the fact that the coffee is crap?

Yes, the Hong Kong people used to have that reputation for buying new only and using their possessions as a status symbol. The mainlanders are worse Martin, especially the 'new rich' and there's a heck of a lot of them. The salary's in that article are still current too Chris. Highly qualified, experienced and well paid graduate engineer's get around $1,500 US a month. That's not much and I wouldn't be going to Starbucks on that money at around 5 bucks a cup and that's for just a basic coffee!

Surprised that the Chinese allow such overt displays of capitalism, frankly. Unless, of course, they are getting a goodly amount of corporation tax from Starbucks.

Ah, that conundrum. Capitalism is the elephant in the room, but they are feeding it well. China is no longer what most people's perception of it is and hasn't been for sometime.
Despite all the media coverage, a lot in the West continue to underestimate the Chinese. They learn and adapt far faster than we give them credit for.
And what's next door to Starbucks . . . Pizza Hut. Ha, this place makes me chuckle everyday.

Some Chinese products are sub standard (motorcycles for one, possibly cars) but they will get it right before long.
Is China still the worst place for "copy" products that are totally inferior to the original, but cheap ?
