I love a good film and going to the cinema so I thought why start a thread One of my favourite film is a film called Men with Guns by John Sayles Its a film that takes you on a journey and looks at the impact that guns have on this on the native people. Their are a few layers in the film giving it a sense of depth and has a good film score that also follows the journey

I like the old films, some can be found on www.archive.org along with some good books and nice music. "The African Queen" still remains my favorite film and then Alistar Sims in "Christmas Carol" the remastered colour version. And then there is the Trek films. And a few silly films like "Star Wreck" and "Groundhog Day" "Red" which was on TV last night was fun and "Red 2" and all the "Minion" Films. Not to happy with Vampire crap films or Sci-Fan films. Comedy is best for me. I have a very large collection of movies and documentaries, about 5K plus.

Cloud Atlas
The film that had the biggest impact on me in recent times. Didn't do too well on release because it's long, complex and requires thinking. My kind of film! I have it on Blu-ray and it repays high quality replay in spades. One you can watch many times and get more from each time. Doona Bae is simply magnificent.

When that first came out someone went round all the bus stops near me and drew an arrow pointing at Kaiser Schoze and wrote "Kaiser Schoze" next to it. Arseholes.
Agreed,good film.

Over the last two weeks we have watched all the Harry Potter films. Surprisingly entertaining and interesting to watch the young actors growing older film by film. But what the hell happened to the last one/two??? I don't know who wrote it but any link to the book seemed very tenuous indeed. I always laughed at the usual snobbery that follows these things. Rowling is admittedly, not the greatest of writers but considering her audience, tells a cracking tale. Today I downloaded the original Planet of the Apes. I watched the first few minutes at lunchtime. Don't remember any pre-amble with Charlton Heston preparing for sleep. Maybe its a directors cut. Anyway, looking forward to seeing it again. "goddam them all to hell, they actually went and did it"

Not seen this, but like almost all Tom Hanks films so have added it to my LoveFilm queue. Thanks for the recommendation (I hope!)

It is. Ridley Scott's best, and that's saying something.

Vangelis made a large contribution to the atmosphere, too.
