Mike , sounds like you went through the mill for little reward in the end . Problem is what do you do . Suffer or take a chance on a cure . You've tried it and now have to find alternative ways of making yourself comfortable . You don't come across as a '' lie down and give in '' type of guy Anyhow , when do you officially finish work ? Any more travelling on the agenda ? Oh ! Incidentally , I work in forensic psychiatric nursing . No quick fix for my patients , they're all long termers

I quizzed the consultant before the op. He said it was a 'must do'. When I went back after the lumps came back the top man saw me, said he would have done the job better and should not have returned, but never a guarantee. He also said that the guidelines have changed so the NHS now regard what I have now and what I had before as cosmetic (class 2 ?) and they won't do it now. So there's a few million saved I'll keep fit and healthy and outlive the buggers. End of April for me. The only travelling likely is walking the dogs and cycling longer distances, but back in time for tea You're a hero doing what you do. Don't think I could manage that/ Slow and steady might win one day. There but for fortune....

You know mate I feel safer doing this job than I did driving a bus in Falkirk at 11 0' clock on a Friday night . Although for the last four years I was an instructor . I had quite a few scary moments doing that TBH I like my job Mike and hopefully it will keep me going until I retire . Sounds like you're well prepared for April and will be able to maintain your good health through a combination of exercise . I'm a bit of a couch potato and really need to get this sorted . Like you I'm a bit of a home bird but Tricia my wife loves travelling so while you're raising a glass to celebrate your retirement I'll be in Madeira ( I could buy myself an upgrade to a nice new top of the range Rega amp for the cost of my annual travels ) . Everything on the NHS is going to become '' cosmetic '' if we don't look after it Mike . I sometimes worry that it won't be here for our children if certain people have their way . Retirement won't be long then . I hope it's a long and happy one Mike . You'll have time to investigate this Mens Shed thing then

Late night anything would not be my pick of jobs. Used to love driving but gone right off that too - at least you have fairly empty roads though ! I lucked into exercise when my body was damaged. Only way I can keep out of pain and flexible is the exercise. Don't like pain at all.
If I'd taken the normal route, holidays, regular car swapping, regular eating out I'd be so much worse off and I don't need them. The money has gone on house, music and hifi.

The late shifts suited my requirements for school dropping off and picking up times . When that was no longer required I took other jobs . I've been driving for around 42 years and can't be bothered with it any more . Bus pass cometh soon I suppose we all have our priorities Mike and sometimes , when we're in a family environment , we have to suit others too and anyway I'm reasonably happy with my system at the moment .

Didn't have kids. Never seemed to be the right time. Gave me more free time of course. Having met the boss in 2000 I managed to acquire 2 stepkids and recently a step grand kid. Don't babies make a lot of noise ?

That's life mate . I was 37 when mines was born and she's still costing me . She's still at university and she doesn't get any money as such so guess who pays She's lovely really Yes babies can and do make a lot of noise and it's a different kind of noise . You tend to want to go towards the noise to try and help rather than move away to the quiet . So you're an old grandpa then Mike

I've had a child, but I still want to move away when I hear someone else's baby crying!

Nah , I'm the opposite Martin . A crying baby does annoy me because I know it's in some sort of distress or other and I want to go and try and help

The noise this little one makes is almost painful. She's had a few problems so I can't blame her much.
Confess I'm more likely to move away when the noise starts though
