Has anyone made any use of the I2c bus on the caiman mk2 yet? Would it possible to use it for remote volume control?

I would love to be able to hook up the I2S bus from a Raspberry Pi straight into the Caiman-II as that would eliminate S/PDIF and should take the streaming sound quality up a further notch.

I haven't got round to trying to code the I2C BUS for myself yet. Mind you I made the dumb mistake of not connecting the input selector on the I2C BUS as well.

Would the I2s pi be compatible with the i2c socket on the caiman? I've done a little reading but it doesn't appear they are compatible, perhaps Stan has some ideas of how it could be utilised?

Just updated the firmware as recommended and have to say that Stan has done it again! The difference between now and ten minutes ago is simply phenomenal, all the detail is there that was before (if not more) but now there is a warmth to the sound that I was missing (when comparing with my Naim CDI) and sublime control of the bass. Thanks Stan, you've saved me a potential fortune again

It's the same process, Tony. A simple chip swap, it's just that the chip is a combined CPU & ROM.

V6 is so worth having, I'm hearing incredible detail from TV dramas, sometimes too much! Bass is noticeable for its extension and control.

I have just bought a Caiman DAC, it's been heavily modified but I'm presuming it's the MK 1 version. I bought it as I am about to carry on the modifications to my DIY dddac. Watch this space.

This chip.
Is it my imagination, don't think so, but does it get better over time ?
I've done nothing else on this system since and boy does it sound good

Yesterday together with Nick I visited vinylspinner for a session. Nick brought along his RPi streamer fed from a SSHD with music ripped with JRiver and music streamed from qobuz. This went into Nigel's V6 Caiman II and the result was fantastic. Nigel also uses WD kit Pre and WAD kit 300B PP amps into Colin Topps Edingdales. It was the best sound I have ever heard from his system. So revealing, it was an almost in the room experience. Certainly this V6 upgrade is a major step forward. I also love it in my system so thank you and a very well done, Stan. The quality of streamed music from qobuz was exceptional and turns our hobby on it's head. qobuz has a massive library of high resolution recordings and membership is just £20 a month with a 15 day trial period. Consider how much you can spend on buying hard copy recordings and this becomes a no brainer. Furthermore, although I am a total vinyl head, the sound is so good, I really loved it as a very revealing balanced and non digital sounding source. www.qobuz.com Check it out is my recommendation.

Has anyone tried to play 192kHz files through the Caiman USB input using WASAPI? If so, did you have any problems?

No even one person tried that? Back to square one. By the way, I'll be emailing a few people to see who might have some free time to test a CMII SFW (super firmware) with correction of some bug reports. My mind is starting to play tricks on me, after working on the codes of all the recent DACs. I am also on the look out for a Bushmaster MKI tester with good ears and revealing system. The BMII SFW testing is already reserved.

I simply don't use USB with mine, Stan.
Very happy as always to test firmware for you.
