Hi,
Just a a bit of advice please in regards to the optimal way to set up the active speakers with the DAC. As mentioned previously there are two options either by using the DAC in variable or fixed mode. The speakers that I use have got volume controls on the front, so I have been trying both options. With the variable option music is much quieter and a bit less dynamic, and the volume knob needs to be turned up high without much increase in sound levels, the fixed mode using the speaker volume control at a very low setting (almost off) on the other hand is much louder with a strong bass. So which of the two is the better option?
Still having the previous issue with not being able to play 192khz. I tried the latest Realtek driver, but unfortunately it caused another issue where forwarding and rewinding created crackling sounds on some FLAC files, so I have gone back to the generic windows driver and the problem has gone, the Realtek driver didn't solve the issue anyway. Also I have noticed that I get some clicking at the start of a FLAC file when it is selected, but if an album is left to play it doesn't occur. I am out of other things to try really, perhaps trying ASIO might be an option, however I had issues trying to install it?
Thanks

Fixed mode would be preferable, provided the speaker volume control is handy. You are then taking the signal in at line level which will maximise noise performance.

Great, thanks for the replies. I definitely think I need to do something with curbing the sound levels with the fixed mode as my ears are suffering a bit. In regards to getting an Attenuator RCA, could someone please recommmend one as there are different dB levels to choose from and I don't know what to go for?
Also, are DSP equalizers a good idea with my media player Foobar to tame the bass, perhaps using the Attenuator RCA will help with the problem?

You have low shelf EQ on that model. Have you tried adjusting it?

Sorry I have no idea what low shelf EQ is, I think there are 3 settings on the back of the speaker set to zero. The low shelf EQ goes down to -6dB, should I turn it all the way down, do the other 2 settings need adjusting too? So by turning that down does it have a similar effect to using the RCA Attenuators?

Turning it down should reduce the bass, which is what you were asking for. Try different settings, -6dB may be too much.
