I've got 'The Inner Mounting Flame' on vinyl and 'You know you know' is one of my all time favourite tracks. Thanks for the heads up, I really must investigate their other albums,
Cheers, Alan

IMO if you rate The Inner Mounting Flame you will be knocked out by Birds of Fire. By the time they made this 2nd album they knew each other that much better and take the whole thing further. The interplay, call and answer is something to behold I'd vote but I can't put 11/10 on it

It's a great album and I'll be enjoying it once again before I make too much comment. Also available on Grooveshark by the way. It's here.

I can hear lots in there, especially King Crimson, bits of Focus, bits of Hendrix. It's like a frantic rock version of Jean Luc Ponty's jazz style.
Great in small doses and infrequently, but not something I'd play all the time. A considered 6/10 for me.

Listen a few more times. It will get into your bloodstream. I'll listen out for KC, Focus and Hendrix influences.
Watch them live on YouTube if you think that's frantic - they go faster. Doesn't seem possible they can get the notes out that fast
Ironically version 2 had Ponty in it Almost as good as Goodman
Didn't realise I was allowed to vote on my own team

Ah now, that's VERY interesting about Ponty and I hadn't know, but I can hear a sense of his style in some of it. Or perhaps they influenced him, who knows?
Watch this and wait until he gets really stuck in...
My favourite album of his is Cosmic Messenger.

Martin Take a listen to Visions of the Emerald Beyond with Ponty on violin - you can see how he really takes off.
For similar to above check out Jerry Goodman- It's alive. Fabulous album, really good recording
Cosmic Messenger 6/10 on the Mikeometer.

What other albums do you like in this style Mike

Not many in that exact style as odd to find 5 musicians playing like that and intertwining so well
Tony Williams and various Lifetime iterations Jan Hammer - Oh Yeah
To a degree you could say Brand X Gentle Giant Colosseum Cream ! (live) Yes
Some of the twin lead guitar bands with keyboards, (if there) good bass and drums players

Yes. Spectrum a definite and I do have it 8/10 on the Mikeometer and should have mentioned as there is more than a nod to Mahavishnu That appears to have been it for Cobham as I think he lost his way after that.

Birds Of Fire is one of those albums that slipped me by, so I'll reserve commenting for a while until I get the chance to play it a good few times. I was familiar with the track "Hope", but that was from another source, namely Jimmy Herring. I can't recommend this album highly enough ...
