Looking good. Can the speakers ever be placed further apart possibly?

Yes, ideally they should be Dave but I'm a bit stuck for space & this configuration does sound better than when I had them either side of the fire place.

Wow - that JVC tt looks fabulous. And that's an incredible variety of kit you have there! - Krell, Croft, Sansui, Sony ... cripes! What's that duo on the bottom shelf?

I've always liked that JVC DD deck. Had it from new Martin and it's never missed a beat. Came across the invoice the other day - £210.

I do now regret having had the Linn 'chip' implanted at this time, as decks like this were ignored as feedback-prone, bass coloured and unmusical by the likes of me. Later reviews in the small-form 'Choice Turntable books seemed to bear this out. More recently, I realise the kind of agendas that key reviewers of the time had and the main UK based technical reviewer of this time had business interests as a 'consultant' all over the UK industry and possibly beyond. Top End cartridges were tested in a flimsy Basik LVX for example and only the select few may have been tried in more suitable combinations when reviewed for HFN, itself becoming an 'Absolute Sounds' mouthpiece around this time.
Forgive the rant above. the JVC deck itself has huge echoes of Denon, but the elegant simplicity of the tonearm really appeals.
By the way, Nottingham Analogue forcibly removed my 'Linn Chip' nearly thirty years ago now and I feel much better for it

Yes, those were dark years for the UK hifi industry when the Flat Earth ruled and dominated by fair means and foul. Very sad.

They don't appear for sale to often, last one I saw on ebay went for around £300 (I nearly bought it but then decided I didn't need two), don't think I'd ever sell it. I've also got (not in use at the moment) what was my original 'proper' deck - purchased last year for the grand sum of £7.99! (it needed some fettling) An Akai AP-003
