Had to happen one day, despite me not wanting too, but it's essential I have one for my new job. Bought a Windows phone though, you won't catch me with any fruit in my pockets Any tips from other Windows phone users? Lumia 640

Oh god, I think I just felt the earth wobbling on its axis! Haha, I know - shocking isn't it! I just hope it doesn't make me change my behaviour - ironic isn't it, that people can't stop using them in social gatherings, to check up on 'social networking' when in fact they are being incredibly anti-social!

Hah! Nice choice, Tim. It depends on whether work has locked it down. You can use the OneDrive app to access your own cloud documents (Office should be included). Tapatalk is the best app for accessing forums like this one. I like Fuse for putting all my RSS news streams (e.g. the F1 websites) into one place. MSN News is not a bad news app. After that, it depends on what you like. The Store can be searched by interest.
Go easy, there's no need to load it up and be ruthless in deleting apps you no longer use.
Oh, and register it with a Microsoft Account so that Find My Phone will keep track of where it is.

It's unlocked Martin and I'll be free to put whatever I want on it. I plan to keep it lean, just really need to have easy access to email on the move and a camera for when I'm at the factory and need to quickly send a photograph to the UK.
Part of the reason I chose a Windows phone was Skype (seems to work better on Windows phones) and seamless integration into the Microsoft eco-system. Already got an MS account and use OneDrive, which is going to be a real bonus on the move. Not sure how restricted it'll be over there, but I know the Chinese really don't like Google and block just about anything Google related, so Android was not high on my shopping list - would have been here, but I think this is my best bet. Really fast too as there isn't all the normal bloat-ware you get on Samsung phones.
Any other recommended apps?

Hahaha, #10, tell me a joke - didn't know Cortana did that and she has a sense of humour . . . bing, bing, bing. Now I wonder what I could ask her? Funny clip John, thanks for that.

Tips, yes throw that tat away and get an iPhone!! Actually, that's not a bad idea - I've got a wonky table here and an iPhone is probably just the right thickness to stop it wobbling?

Actually now you mention it, the iPhone's superior build quality may just be perfect

Very impressed with Cortana, makes the phone very functional and so far 'she' has got the answer to every question I asked. I loved the answer I got to "What are you wearing?" I hear what you say Paul and yes the iPhone build quality is superior to a Lumia 640 - but, you can't change the battery and you can't put a 128GB microSD card into an iPhone. Not a problem if you don't need to, but I expect that sort of functionality from a mobile device, so it was an easy choice. It was also a fraction of the cost and for me, it does more of what I need? But I wouldn't want to prop my table up with it, so you got me there, the iPhones better! Each is the best for what it's user wants from it and as I use Windows it's the logical solution . . . suum cuique.

Marie and I have a 640 each. Can't fault them at the price. Does everything I need. Daughter has an iphone - accessory quality is atrocious! Not to mention the battery life! Having worked at Symbian and Nokia on handsets and having usb chargers etc, staying in the family was a no brainer for me.

Can't fault them at the price. Does everything I need. I think for the price as you say Steve, they are hard to fault, especially if you're happy with Microsoft, which I am. Windows 8.1/10 really makes sense now, especially with Office 365 and 1TB of storage available via OneDrive. Being able to slot a 128GB mSD in is fantastic, that's a lot of music at 192kbps and still leaves plenty of room for photographs and documents. A user swappable battery is also a real bonus not found on many of the so called 'flagship' phones. Come to think of it, I have never had any phone other than a Nokia and I think the brand name should have been retained personally, as it's a Nokia at heart? It has a lot of functionality for 130 quid that's for sure. Never been one for 'lifestyle' part of the crowd must have products, so I'm quite pleased that some people don't think it's cool - for me that's exactly what makes it right The only thing I'm hankering after at the moment is a good remote app for JRiver, but I have an Android tablet so it's no biggie, would just be the icing on the cake. I'm not an app addict and have already removed a lot from the phone - Facebook was one of the first to go! I have mixed feelings about owning one, but it's essential now and it's still going to primarily be a phone/music player. Having access to documents on the go though is a real bonus - so all in all, I'm very pleased with it. EDIT:That's a fart phone Chris!

Looking at the ones I've settled on using: Office OneDrive File ExplorerSpotify VLC Shazam & SoundHound (music detection) Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter WikipediaIMDB (films) TVShow (series)Weather YouTubeRadio ParadiseEBay PayPalHere Drive+, Here Maps Banking appThat list is going to be pretty similar to mine Martin, but a cut down version. I have a question about Spotify as I have read mixed reports on the app regarding 'offline' playing being buggy. I downgraded to Unlimited awhile back and am thinking of going back to Premium, only if the 'offline' feature has been sorted for the Windows Phone app - also, can you play local files from the phone. Any comments? Is File Explorer a Windows app or third party?
