From Wired"Vinyl really is back; Panasonic has used its annual IFA press conference in Berlin to announce that it will relaunch and reinvent its iconic Technics turntable series, providing a lifeline to fans of analogue audio."

Certainly very interesting indeed but aimed fairly and squarely at the 'high-end market' ... Any guess at a price? Not sure it will be 'providing a lifeline to fans of analogue audio'

Hmmm......like Jules, I tend to see this as being priced rather ambitiously. If you look at the Technics website, you see that there are two hifi product ranges. If you click the link on the budget range to see who your local dealer is, you find that there is only one place in the UK that you can buy it. That would be the shop that begins with an 'H' and ends with '..arrods'. This has ....err....certain implications with regard to price!

Where's the needle thing that goes on it?

It certainly has a look that exudes 'expensive'.

Where's the needle thing that goes on it? It's a motor unit, you can mount the arm of your choice on it.

It looks (to me) like something I could knock up in my garage given an hour or two.
I bet the price will be a real deal breaker ?

There will be an arm mounting board as with previous high end Technics decks.

I bet the price will be a real deal breaker ? LOL That's the problem with the world today, no idea how manufacturing and distribution works. It will sell well regardless of how much it costs, the UK won't be a big market for it though.

Trouble is the shaft/spindle looks like a SL-1200 ? The motor coils are flat wound and will be low torque, let's hope it is a PLL design though ?

Looks ugly to me I'm afraid. More the sort of thing I'd expect of a prototype or a DIY build.

That motor looks a work of art.

That motor looks a work of art. It does doesn't it ! Apart from the SL-1200 shaft tapered sleeve. This is a world exclusive for TAS as the photo has never been shown on the internet before.

I bet the price will be a real deal breaker ? Yes - it's a piece of decking timber sprayed silver sitting on some old cans !
