Are you an Ableton user, Paul?
My son uses it extensively.

I played with Ableton when NIN packaged it up with an album to invite remixes.
I found it very unintuitive and harder work than I felt it should be.
It's possible it's much better now. It was a while ago.

Are you an Ableton user, Paul? My son uses it extensively. Funny how different people see things in different ways. I ran through all of the usual suspects when I first started using a DAW (Audacity, Reaper, Cubase, FL, Cakewalk etc.) and unlike user211 I actually found Ableton to be the most intuitive, which is why I've stuck with it. So, a rather longwinded, " yes, I am, Martin. "

As a software engineer I am probably overly critical compared to mere mortals LOL;)

I've crossed over to the dark side. I've just bought a used 4th Gen iPad to run the apps for my AMPLIFi TT, my Spider V 60, and my Variax guitars. At least I'll only have to activate Bluetooth on one device (for the AMPLIFi tt) that way.

In a fit of throwing caution to the wind, I've ordered one of these. Not the genuine item, of cause:

They do look gorgeous, don't they? I can't read the truss rod cover, is it a "branded" model?

Ah, right, I recognise the brand, and I know Bax, having bought stuff from them in the past. I think Fazley is their "house brand," rather like Thomann has the Harley Benton range. That's a Hell of a good price.

Knowing little about guitars, I've never heard of either. It just seems crazy what you can get for such little money now. I think they have a Horner style bass for £155.

It can be a bit "you pays your money and you takes your chances," with some of the stuff that's out there. I'd definitely recommend the Harley Benton range, I've got one of their basses and I've just bought one of their guitars on eBay, and they both punch well above their weight. The guitar is actually pictured on the previous page of this thread. A company like Bax is not going to sell gear that reflects poorly on them would be my guess.

Just had a look. The Horner style bass appears disappointing from a couple of reviews. A Horner apparently costs £60 more and a better option.
Read up on what the fifth control on a Rickenbacker is for. Appears it's an additional volume control for the neck pick up to balance with the bridge pick up.

Who has one of these? It's an original Casio VL Tone and a thing of strange beauty IMO. Back in the day when I was at school these were all the rage when Human League's 'Dare' came out and I still remember a band playing at school who just used VL Tones. One finger at a time of course, they can't play chords! Quite an iconic thing now they fetch around 100 quid on eBay. Happy days.

I programmed it to play the War Of The Worlds theme and a mate at work thought it sounded so awesome he bought it from me, for more than I paid for it, obviously. I eventually bought a Casio CZ-101.

I did of course mean Hofner.
Didn't notice the predictive text change.

I have much fondness for the Yamaha DX-7 which really was the synth du jour back in the day.

I will try and recall them in order, first year is the year of purchase
1970 Gretsch F Hole Acoustic, my first stupidly I sold it to get a bike
1979 Shergold Masquerader(1978), another one I should have kept 1980 Kramer ali neck guitar (1980). black body Strat lookalike and pickups, unbelievable sustain 1980 Gibson Standard SG(1969), a classic that I loved 1981 Roland G-808 Guitar Synthesizer
Oh I nearly forgot, I hired a Prophet-5 synth to try out in a band, we hired it from a member of New Musik
1988 Custom built SG type guitar(1987), built by professional Luthier, with all through neck and bonded body, all fittings gold plated, given to me for birthday.
2003 Gibson Standard SG(1984) 2004 Ibanez JSM10 John Scofield signature 2004 Tangelwood Discovery (I think)
I think that is about it.
