We share science fiction novels John. I'm a huge fan of Philip K. Dick.
I collect stamps, especially Commonwealth, started this when I was in the forces. My musical tastes are alternative rock, classical, electronical relaxed music and pop of the seventies. I am also attempting to write a science fiction novel. My tipple of choice is sherry, but I also like the occasional cider. I'm a bit of a radio and film buff too. I love walking the dogs and also have a few cats, I am very much into animal concerns.

Not much to say. 49 yrs old don't smoke, don't drink, enjoy watching combat sports. Past doing much more than watching at my age but I do spar for fun/exercise. Also like cycling and swimming. Hate indoor pools though. I love sunshine, coastal locations and warm weather. I'm also an animal lover and supporter of animal charities. Musical tastes: Folk, Latin and electronica mainly, but I like a lot of mainstream stuff like Springsteen, Van Morrison etc. Dislikes: Opera, Classical Music, crowds, traffic, Winter, animal cruelty, rugrats oh and let's not forget Rugby: Watching fat blokes with cauliflower ears rolling round in the mud does nothing for me. Sorry to those who love it, but I can't stand it

I'm the wrong side of my mid fifties. I've always had an engineering mind but I love the arts. Sadly, I'm not at all creative artistically. My collection is an almost equal split of classical and rock/blues/jazz/modern music and it's all on physical media.
I read lots, love SF in particular, enjoy good films, the theatre and live performances. I detest musicals and dislike most opera.
My degree is in Electronic Engineering and I also have a PGCE. I am now a Chartered IT Professional.
I have a powerboat level 2 qualification and, although I no longer own a boat, I intend to buy an 18' class speedboat that I can tow sometime in the future. I also love cars. The only sports I watch are F1 and tennis and the only sport I participate in is skiing although I was a very good swimmer at school.
My wife had cancer and died, I had cancer and survived, it really doesn't seem fair. I wish that she could have seen our son growing up. I have a gorgeous partner in life again, we've been together for 7 years and I have learned to value every day that I have on this Earth as a bonus.

I'm a bit of a Jeckyll and Hyde. Work offshore in the North Atlantic and it's all boys stuff. Bad,bad taste humour, lots of heavy duty graft and a lot of good fun. When I'm home I keep my garden nice and take my rather large and fierce Malamute out a lot. We've got a cat(Leroy) and a tortoise(Floyd) as well so big on animals also. I'm keen on adventure - we've polar explorer blood in the family - so I like my canoe, mountain bike and generally being outside and active. System wise I've 2 - both valve amp setups 1EL34 based and 1 KT88 based as well as a few amps and speakers lying around. Music tastes are always changing but just now I'm listening to everything from LaFemme to Hayseed Dixie. Love my reading as well though it's gotta be non fiction for me! I'm quite happy to help folk in any way I can as well so feel free to noise me up.
I'm sorry to hear about your wife MartinT - I also appreciate every day and value life.

Also 47, and about to be married this Saturday!
Swore I'd never do it again..
Varied taste in music, like John I have been getting more into Jazz as the years go by. Also like Folk and Blues, even some Classical on occasion.
Work wise I'm a site manager, I build high voltage substations. Been self employed for the last few years, am now limited company.
Bit of a diy dabbler, have a few valve amps but my current amps are solid state. Recently completely recapped a Denon HA1000 head amp, vinyl is now the best it's been at home. Have a great sounding Tandberg R to R also.

Full disclosure, eh? 49 years old, travelled around a bit, having had a father who worked in Pakistan and Central Africa among other places and then being taken to all points UK in my own training and career. Currently set up camp in semi-rural Lancashire, but with an out-station in North Lincolnshire. I work as a forestry and woodland advisor to a large organisation, my professional goal is to try to prevent the creation of the 'Great North-West Desert'. I used to manage woodland for a small selection of Dukes and Baronets, then went into independant consultancy for a major power producer and was involved in the inception of the biggest biomass power project in the UK, which was the most exciting and interesting job that I could imagine. I consider myself lucky enough to have been able to marry my best friend and I have been with Mischa for over 25 years. We have a daughter, Emily of whom we are extraordinarily proud to have brought up to be a fine young lady. Apart from family and work, music is the main focus of my attention and I have some stuff that I like to play it with. I still love to travel, mostly to see the amazing stuff to be found in the natural world: hills, woods and deserts are all pretty good places to poke around but we like to get a little dose of architecture, culture and history in the odd European city at least once a year. I have always read a lot, favouring travel writing and non-fiction, usually having at least two or three books on the go at any time. Sport? I used to play a lot of cricket and dabble round the fringes of the competitive gliding scene but those days are gone now. I am a very strong swimmer and like to watch a bit of tennis with Mischa. Oh, and I am involved in a little website which concerns itself with hifi and music.

I may yet marry again and I'm not against the idea, I just don't feel it to be necessary for my future happiness.

Age - 40 Married, with three children; 10, 14 & 18. I work for an international finance company in corporate affairs; very challenging, but big bonus of the job is I get to see the world, whilst getting paid. Currently look after the companies political and regulatory affairs in Hungary, Poland, Spain, Czech, Romania and Bulgaria. I'm currently in the process of buying my cd/digital collection on vinyl - buying about 25 records a month. Enjoy a drink at the weekends; nice wine in a restaurant or a pint in the pub - equally happy! Also go to lots of gigs whilst on my travels. Enjoy modern art and photography; particularly Martin Parr and Wolfgang Tillmans.
