At first I really liked business travel and felt that I got to know a lot of places. However, as the intrusion into my life stepped up, and the inside of all international hotels started to look the same, the fun started to pale. I always tried to integrate a weekend, and very often a rental car, into the trip and those occasions were more fun.
Are you still enjoying the trips?

Arh the work life balance tricky act.
Having spent many years traveling the globe for a few large conglomerates in a similar position, I did find myself as Martin has mentioned, spending time between airport lounges, flights, hotel lobby's and bars, corporate HQ's and traveling to and from the above.
Exciting and exhilarating at first though as time wore on the fun became jaded, that said I managed to see a great deal of the world and some pretty amazing places.
It is just obtaining the right balance not an easy pivot point to reach!
However now the the darling children have left the nest it has become a lot easier

Travel isn't too bad at the moment. Was getting a bit out of hand, so six months ago we agreed the following: I spend Mon to Fri away, home the whole next week, Mon to Thurs away the week after, then home the 4th week. I wouldn't want to increase from that though.

Yes sorry to to hear about your wife Martin, oh and congrats Ali! I am a 37 year old who lives in Berkshire and am also lucky to be married to my best friend, Christina, we have a house full of cats (4 at the moment although that will likely grow) and have been interested in Hifi for the majority of my life as it is a shared interest with my Dad. As many of you would have seen from one of my earlier posts, this year has been somewhat scary with finding out that I have a very serious heart condition but I am planning on living life to the full and seeing how things go… so far so good, although my pacemaker vibrated the other day (due to a misconfiguration that needed to be corrected at the Hospital) which scared the living daylights out of wifey and I. Due to the ongoing illness, I haven't really been at work much this year. I am employed by a large multi-national IT organisation as a Senior IT Service Management Consultant and hope to get back to it, although I am yet to know whether I will ever be able to do the level of travelling or a full time role, due to the stress it puts on the body and ultimately the heart. Hobbies, well I have been collecting CD's for the past few years, mainly in a bid to build up my collection and I guess it has now become a habit, I buy around 20-30 CD's a month, usually from Amazon and try to find the cheapest albums Other than that, I like walking with the wife, there is some really nice countryside in Berkshire and also we travel to see my Auntie and Uncle regularly who live in Devon and it is lovely there. I used to like badminton and hope to get back to playing at some point in the future and the occasional game of golf, although not in bad weather as I am a complete wimp Other interests, I like watching films and as a subscriber of Amazon Prime and Netflix I get lots of choice on top of my already reasonably large collection of DVD's, oh and I like a good TV series or two. Paul.

Another 47 year old here...
Interests Music - Many genres, but particularly noisy stuff, chill out, and plenty of electronica. Movies - I'm a big horror fan, but like most genres, particularly thrillers, world cinema, anything though provoking, and the occasional quality comedy. Casual cycling - I don't try and go fast enough to warrant dressing in skin hugging latex and shaving my legs. I just enjoy the open air aspect, and makes me feel free. Maybe it reminds me of my childhood too - did a lot of cycling around in my old Raleigh Chopper and BMX days! Gaming - Since the days of the Atari VCS. Not so much nowadays, and at my age I'm trying to ignore the enticement to get back into it as I know I'll waste half of my reminding life in the process... Motorsports - Mainly Formula 1, British Touring Car, Australian V8 Supercars, and World Touring Car (when I get a chance to catch it).
Work I've been in the hi-fi industry (retail) for 25 years now, as music and movies are a couple of my main interests, and I enjoy helping people who also enjoy the same.

Hmmm, where to start. Worked as SW eng in telecom networks and then various roles in Handsets, Ops Director, Head of Customer services Europe and Programme Quality and so on. Seen the world doing the above and never minded as long as it was to a new place. Got out of all that and am now sort of retired, doing what I want to, when I want to, and making a few interesting hifi bits and bobs for folk. Heavily into playing tennis, stringing racquets for myself and mates. Watch a lot of tennis, like all forms of motor sport, two wheels and four. Raced my Caterham for a couple of seasons over a decade a go and have some trophies inc minor club championship to show for it. Play the guitar occasionally now and consider myself sub par at it... Like making things - hence my hifi system. Long may it continue to evolve. Have two daughters at uni. Will be moving to the new forest within the month all being well. Nothing keeping us on the IT / telecoms silicon valley area of the UK anymore! I don't really like big cities, don't like total rurality (is that a word?) either. Music tastes are varied but mostly like a good beat / bass line and lyrics are important to me.
Been with Marie since 1986. Life long companion.
Bilingual - was useful in my telecoms days. Some of my favourite music is Swedish. The long snowy skiing filled winters, all types of driving conditions, a bit of frozen lake driving and frantic short light summers are still a fond memory of those times.
