Yes it mentions the big three but also mentions "I've just done that simply because of a tiresome, repetitive and ongoing negativity towards a manufacturer and because some will eagerly add their support against another without evidence of history or facts. No point naming names or giving out pointers. What have been your reasons for leaving a forum?" So for me the question is why do people leave forums and they are many reasons Read more: theaudiostandard.net/thread/1423/why-people-leave-forums#ixzz3eIIf7Uha

I think you misunderstand us John. My reply to the OP says it all (post no. 2) I think Greg has the same thoughts as me (and you too, actually!)

Yes, absolutely agree Chris. I think you may have got the wrong angle, John, on this occasion.
No harm done. Interesting that a topic of very potential conjecture and disruption has been now discussed here without any flames for 5 pages. That rather indicates the goodness of this forum. I like it a lot! Carry on as you were..........You seem to have got it right! Well done!

I think it comes down to that Dark side of the moon quote "I can't really think of anything to say" I think I'm with pinkie on this. I get a feeling on some forums (fora is possibly correct but seems clumsy) that I am not really welcome and so end up not bothering to add questions or comments, or answering questions others ask so as not to get shot down for my opinion (for example my not being convinced that HiRes music makes any noticeably difference to my ears could get me "virtually" taken out and shot as an example to other heretics). That said I never actually leave a forum, just visit it less and less until I may as well have done so.

I was with you the way until this....
I pray to at least 6 every time a plane I am on is coming into land (taking off is too enjoyable to worry about my impending death in a fire ball). Even though my engineering degree and 20 years in various engineering companies tells me why I'm going to be perfectly safe I'm still grateful every time the plane doesn't burst into flames and crumple to a ball of ripped metal as we land.

The only forums of importance to me are TAS (hi-fi & music), CRZ Forum (car) and EduGeek (work).

Can you try one thing for me please: switch to BBCode mode (the tab under the full reply window) and see if you can submit a basic message? I think Safari is at fault here. Have already tried (and failed) to submit a message via the BBCode mode; I get the same 'you must provide some text' error message. I'll try posting via an old Windows 7 laptop later on this evening.

It certainly seems to be an issue with many "fora" that one must be very thick skinned and ready and willing to get into a verbal fight if one dares to post at all. They appear to be particularly attractive a a certain kind of person who needs to find fault with/prove wrong/counter and/or take the piss out of everything and anything posted by another member....

Must admit I was disappointed when you were banished from elsewhere, Jez. Thanks but my last post here had nothing to do with my recent erm... issues! I've not been banished from "elsewhere"... more self exiled (I did expect to be banished...), a situation which, having had so many PM's and emails of support, I am giving some consideration to. I have also been un-banished from another "elsewhere" in "the big three"....

Oh, I wasn't referring to recent events (whatever they might be). I was referring to last year.

I think you need to distinguish between a vocal and combative minority and the larger group of more reasonable people on forums.
I'm coming to the view that it is best to just ignore offensive or aggressive posts as if they weren't there. I think it is important to remember that you don't have to respond - "don't feed the trolls" is a good maxim in my view!
