I've just done that simply because of a tiresome, repetitive and ongoing negativity towards a manufacturer and because some will eagerly add their support against another without evidence of history or facts. No point naming names or giving out pointers. What have been your reasons for leaving a forum? Maybe the big three who own this one could make note and not repeat the same mistakes, so far, this has been a most enjoyable place to be, albeit still in its infancy. Thanks big three

Hi Ron. Thanks for your kind comment on TAS so far. I take it from that, that you have recently vacated yourself from another forum rather than announcing that you are about to leave this one?!! (Rhetorical question - I respect your desire to refrain from naming names).
I've left a few forums, mostly because I became quickly tired of petty squabbling.

For me it's usually been circular repetitive arguments repeatedly de-railing threads. Also constant conflict between people I have never met and really don't care about. Then there are the handful of forum regulars who are rude to those who use them less often. I enjoy TAS because it about the music and the hifi rather than the personalities, the egos and the inter-forum warfare.

Hi Ron, thanks for your kind comments. We have striven for a peaceful community of like-minded enthusiasts, it hasn't always been plain sailing but as you have noted some members don't appear to seek peace and harmony in their postings.
For me, the reasons I abandoned other forums (the main one being the same as I suspect you have just walked away from) are: 1. Dogmatic tyrants who insist on imposing their views on everything to the exclusion of alternative views 2. Rudeness, trolling, and general ego-centric or cliquey behaviour, the in-crowd versus the rest 3. Traders who have insidiously 'bought' rights to the forum
I don't suggest that running a forum is easy or that we always get it right!

Agree with that Martin, I'd also add people telling lies and constantly denigating a persons character, to the point of libel.
And taking such satisfaction from doing so.

Bingo!... You hit it first shot, that includes the first two answering responses, thankee. I like this forum for the very same reasons that is your intention of keeping it friendly and knuckle dusters and knives binned as it were! Also, white on blue background is pleasing and restful to tired eyes, well at least to these old eyes. I would like the occasional belly laugh instead of a slight tilt of the lip into a nervous smile on here, this does not mean vulgarity passing as humour by the way. Ron

I think it comes down to that Dark side of the moon quote
"I can't really think of anything to say"
Hostility and other behaviour issues contribute. A forum owner who thinks he knows it all, rams his superior (alleged) knowledge patronisingly down your throat, while making schoolboy errors on basic electricity, and then whining he is a victim of a global conspiracy when challenged on his mistakes, was contributory. But as singularity pointed out, particularly in a smaller forum, if you start to find you no longer have anything in common, then it is pointless being there.
This forum is free of such angst. It maybe could do with growing a bit, and finding a wild side, and I sometimes struggle to relate to those with experiences outside my own, but it is angst free and I enjoy supporting it

I wouldn't say I leave forums, I fade out from ones I find tiresome. Sometimes I'll fight for what I feel is right but nowadays I can't be that bothered. Forums often attract a small number of social misfits who I'd probably not converse with face-to-face so why should I do any different on forums? Life is too short, be more discerning about the conversations you enter is my view.

I cannot get on with forums period for many reasons, it seems no one is like myself in my ways & beliefs.. it seem to be a bit esoteric in my ways hence will never ever get on with people.

I've rarely left a forum (once I think) but there are a number I am a member of but rarely post on (some of them I never post on). For me it all depends on the content - if something I find interesting is posted, or a question regarding something I have experience of (hence I rarely post about CD or digital issues) then I may well respond. I can certainly see the existence of cliques is an off putting factor. Fortunately for me (I guess) I am often seen as being 'in' with that clique (though this is rarely the case).

I leave forums mostly when:
a) I see the same circular arguments that will never be settled spinning round round, just like a record baby round round round;
b) I start making the same points that I first made when I joined the forum several years previously;
c) I get banned, which has only happened once, as I'm an agreeable chap who is tolerant of most things except opera.

who is tolerant of most things except opera. LOL, I can't entirely disagree with you as I find opera (and musicals) difficult.

Many, many years ago I was in the Cornflake Shop in That London to audition some CDPs. The chap asked me what sort of music I listened to, and I said 'Anything, really, apart from opera'. He was shocked by my reply, and asked how old I was. I was then 30-something, and he said 'Wait till you're 40, then you'll appreciate opera'. 30 years on, and I still can't listen to the stuff (I actually bought a couple of opera CDs just on the off-chance that it might all suddenly make sense).

Some of the overtures and the arias/duettes etc. can be wonderful. But the rest of it I can leave.

I find Opera hard to tolerate and can't see that changing. I find the women's voices particularly annoying. They often set my ears off. If I was a dog I'd be howling.
That's not the worst part though: it's the weird faces and mannerisms they display: especially when they take a deep breath. What's that all about? It often reminds me of the faces people pull when they get food stuck.
The delivery is also very artificial and forced, it makes it near impossible to hear what they are singing. Then you hear Opera singers performing other types of music and suddenly they are often both enjoyable and intelligible.
No offence to those who get pleasure from Opera: if it makes anyone happy, then I'm pleased for them. I just don't understand or appreciate it on any level.

Thanks big three Many people have left that forum because of the same ignorant obnoxious twat and his ass lickers. His vendettas against certain manufacturers are totally unacceptable and based on personal disagreements while he promotes others of unproven merit as being vastly superior. Remember the owners of certain mods he promotes are very small in number. In spite of his rants DC and RD are doing good business which is why they can't be assed to sue the bollocks of him.
