That's a good read, I learned a few things there.
Thanks!

Hehe, yes roasting is very much anyway. Some of it is in the grind too.

I won't be bothering, especially at those prices. Me neither.

I've been single dosing my Eureka Mignon Specialita grinder for a good while now. I switch between caffeinated (for guests) and water method decaf coffee (for me). The standard hopper was just not ideal. Always had to shake the quite heavy machine to get the last of the beans to drop. I set about a quick DIY fix. A bit of turning. This is African Blackwood, used on clarinets and oboes because of it's antiseptic qualities, I thought it would be ideal here. Hole cutting out for the grind feeder size. Turning out the mini hopper. Shallow curved sides. No beans should get stuck Smoothed and sanded to 800grit A coat of food grade (when dried) Danish oil. On the machine ready for use. 2 scoops of beans is all it takes ☕

Quick update on the Fellow Ode grinder.
It really is a thing of joy, effortlessly easy to use and easy on the eye too. Overall I consider it to be exceptional VFM. The only quirk found so far is that the auto off function sometimes doesn't work with my usual 11g Aeropress grind. Manufacturer says that it does not always detect a grind under 18g which is strange as it's designed as a single shot machine.
My Gen 1 model is available on Amazon right now for £175. I'd be surprised if they hang around at that price. Remember that if you want to grind espresso you need the Gen 2 or other ...

Easily the best instant I have tried, I drink it when staying with mother.

My Fellow Ode grinder has been an absolutely inspired purchase so far.
I'm actually drinking less coffee now. I grind enough for three cups first thing and that's me done - I don't have the desire to drink more, it seems to satisfy me more than my previous regime when I could drink 4-5 cups no problem. Definitely quality and not quantity now.
So easy to make micro adjustments to the grind size when I try a new coffee, depending on whether I want a heavier or lighter brew.
Brilliant grinder, but a reminder to anyone interested that it's not suitable for espresso fine grind.

It's all in grind 🙂
I'm enjoying the Redber decaf beans (Mexican / Guatamalan / Costa Rica all using the water method), that I roast in a flax oil perma- treated pan. Using a lid allows for a more event hot roasting temp, with less direct heat from below.
I've started having one scoop caffeinated (also home roasted, beans I had left from Silver Oak (Ely), and one scoop decaf. I'll probably go over to Redber's caf offerings next time.
Being green beans I can buy in bulk and roast when required.
I've found that I actually sleep better at night with a little bit (one shot) of caffeine coffee in the morning.. something about being invigorated a bit and then coming down during the day, being ready for deep sleep at night😴 I don't know how that works but it does😂

Wish I could find a way to change my sleep patterns but caffeine isn't the factor. I've got horrible dark circles under my eyes from consistently poor sleep ... If only I could find a way to switch off the dreaming ...

Time for the summer duvet.

If only I could find a way to switch off the dreaming ... With me it comes and goes and seems to be more about body discomfort. I was distinctly overheated last night, which didn't help. Time for the summer duvet. I used to suffer terribly from overheating due to the stress from dreams I often get. This was pretty much cured overnight by the purchase of a pure wool duvet which I use year round. They are so much more breathable than any other duvet, synthetic or natural.

Let me know how these work out please - I have been recommended to try similar... From what I can gather (unless it's a *clever* marketing strategy) different people experience different results, so what works for one may not work for another. I'd be loath to recommend them, or say they were useless when they might have precisely the opposite effect on another person. What I will say is that what I'm actually doing is upping the dosage. I tried a course of the 10mg dosage, and I thought I felt some improvement, so ...in for a penny, in for another twenty quid. I take one as soon as I get into bed and read for a while before laying down to sleep ...if I don't fall asleep reading first. I'd say just " give them a try". At worst you've bought some rather expensive but pleasant-tasting Gummy Bears. I'll vouch for the flavour of that particular brand, and I thought the 10mg version tasted the nicest out of the two. I've also felt the benefits of wearing a cotton nightshirt, rather than pyjamas, it's less constrictive. I also now sleep on top of the covers, rather than under them as it gives my legs more "freedom of movement".

Thanks, Paul. I've dabbled with the idea of trying CBD and I'm now going to order some.

Definitely quality and not quantity now. Yup and as Steve says, it really is all in the grind . . .
Max of 2 cups a day for me and always in the morning, very, very rare for me to have coffee after midday. I've been grinding my own beans for around 12 or 13 years now and it's probably 15 years + since I drank an instant!
