Met a friend for coffee this morning and was charged £3 for a medium cappuccino at a local cafe. Absolute robbery IMO.

Have discovered Cafe Direct Peruvian ground coffee, on sale at Sainsburys currently.
Very nice at work with the Aeropress.

I'm looking at buying an Aeropress. But there look to be a zillion ways to use it, some more complex and time consuming than others.

Am I right in thinking that I need fine grind? Lots of different grinds will work, Jules. You just adjust the brew times accordingly. Brew for 1 to 2 minutes (or less) using a fine grind Brew for 2 to 3 minutes + with a medium-fine grind Brew for 3 to 4 minutes with a medium grind Brew for 3-5 minutes with a coarse grind Paul's useful link.

Just use the instructions with the Aeropress. More esoteric methods can wait. For fine grind, I brew for 45s and then press. 2 spoons of coffee, hot (not boiling) water up to the '2' mark, presses out an espresso. Top up with water to make a short mug of great Americano.
Sainsburys do some good coffee like their Columbian Quinchia. I've also discovered Café Direct coffee which is good.

I've always enjoyed Brazilian coffee in the past so going to see if I can pick some up at Waitrose later.

Just went to order some more Nespresso capsules to find they've drastically reduced the range (the ones I usually like are gone of course). This appears to be because they've introduced a new machine called a Vertuo which takes entirely different capsules.
If I were cynical, I'd say this is:
a. to make us all buy new machines b. to get back at the new 'nespresso-clone' capsules which must be taking a lot of their profit away.
..wait, I AM cynical...

Help please!
Once I put the water into the chamber, the coffee starts dripping through immediately into the cup instead of brewing in the chamber so obviously the grind is too coarse - will pick up some find grind later.
If you are having a full cup of coffee, up to level 4 in the chamber, how many measures of grind coffee are you using - is it still just one scoop?

Next effort much better - after pouring water in I put the plunger in at an angle and pulled up a bit to create vacuum - this stops drip-through. Still lost too much coffee before plunger went in after stirring so definitely need finer grind coffee.

Are you using a paper or gauze filter?
I still use paper and very little drips through after stirring, until I apply the plunge.

Though I don't struggle with the loss of the brew, I always use the vacuum technique that you described Jules.

She filled the inverted one first and plunged it last. Not a very controlled test!
I'll continue to do it the normal way round. It's worked for me so far.
I notice that she filled it up to make the whole cup at once. I fill it to the '2' mark to make an espresso and then top it up to an Americano.
