A most remarkable evening.
Will report back once I've had time to digest and cogitate ...

The Philadelphia are superb, Jules. Isle of the Dead should sound amazing played by them.

News from the Albert -
"It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. We are truly honoured that Queen Elizabeth II was our Patron.
As a mark of respect for the Queen, all concerts and bookings at the Hall on 9 and 10 September have been cancelled."
That's tonight's Prom and the Last Night. Could the latter have been changed to a musical tribute to QE? Maybe that will follow in due course.

Phew - when I started reading that, I thought our Vengerov gig had been cancelled. Again!

It could still be cancelled / postponed.
The date for Queen Elizabeth's funeral hasn't been set but I have read that 19 September is a potential date. I can't imagine the concert would proceed if that happens.

I note that the Albert is now closed from 9-16 September and all remaining Proms including the Last Night have been cancelled.
It would be great if they were to organise some kind of fitting musical tribute to the late Queen ...

I have two concerts to look forward to soon -
Bruckner 9 with the excellent Robin Ticciati and the LPO on Nov 30 - MartinT will be joining me for this and a glass or two ...
The Tallis Scholars at St John’s Smith Square which I have never been to, Dec 21.
These guys delivered one of the best performances I have ever seen at St Pauls to celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2013.
This concert will be an an "unusual seasonal celebration: the Five-voice Mass of William Byrd; and a selection of highly contrasting motets in praise of Christ and his Mother"
Should be fab.

I am so looking forward to seeing The Tallis Scholars on Wednesday with an irresistible programme of early Church music including gems from Byrd, Gesualdo and others. Should be so beautiful in the grand Baroque setting of St John's Smith Square which I understand has a fine acoustic. Bring it on!

Rach 3? Hope she's exercised her fingers. What a beast of a piano concerto!
Enjoy.

I have a reasonably busy concert schedule over the next few months including a trio of Mahler symphonies.
First up will be Mahler 3 with Paavo Järvi next Thursday which I'm rather excited about. First time hearing it live since the late 70's!

I don't remember the exact year, but I think it was a fairly regular Christmas broadcast and I caught a few.
EDIT: I remember this one from 1983.

Am hoping to see the wonderful Ms Benedetti at the Buxton International Festival this summer with The English Concert.
The programme is ravishing - I've heard her play the Grosso Mogul before and it's fab-u-lous ...
F Geminiani Concerto Grosso in D minor, ‘La Follia’, H 143
A Vivaldi Violin Concerto in E flat major RV 257
A Corelli Concerto Grosso in B flat major, Op. 6 No. 5
A Vivaldi Violin Concerto in B minor RV 386
A Vivaldi Violin Concerto in D major, ‘Grosso Mogul’, RV 208.
