Certainly worth more than the current bid , but his claim that they would cost 3k today is a little off the mark . Made in 1973 by all accounts , they would have to have cost £280ish to be worth 3k today [ assuming a simple inflation increase calculation ] You could buy a garrard 401 for £26 quid and a house for 10k in 1973 so i doubt they cost £280 .

They were not 1973 nor £280. The 'Richmond' was their first speaker.
Back then however a Garrard 'Zero 100' would have been quite a bit more expensive than the '401'

For the record i didn't say they cost 280.
Castle website says they started in 1973.

Lets have a re-cap shall , we . i made a post suggesting 3k today price was to optimistic and offered reasons why . Andre - sought to contradict me with rhetoric - That is he said I was wrong because he said so . His rehtoric is not very coherent so it is not 100% clear what he claims is incorrect . He takes issue with the price , but i did not say they cost £280. He takes issue with the date 1973 , saying this was castle first speaker . Castle own website says they started in 1973. And offers a baffling comparison vis-a-vis the price of alternative garrard Despite these facts, I am the one getting in the neck from the friendly forum - Go figure . |
