That will be why I get renumerated for arguing and you do not .. Do you get paid as well being recounted? The word you are after is remunerated. cagey , probably best if you go back to ignoring me .

Err, I thought this was supposed to be a thread about interesting EBay listings. Please not another one that ends up being an argument for arguments sake. Can anyone interested in those sort of "debates" start a separate "let's have an argument for argument's sake" thread please? The rest of us can perhaps leave them to argue with themselves

OK, time to stop this now please. Let's follow Andrew's advice and get back onto the topic.

Nice little things. Have you ever owned anything from the brand?

I keep trying when they pop up, but their used value is very high. As I'm essentially buying blind, I will need to be lucky with a pair at a good price. The Super Elves are just a bit too small for me and they are designed for low level listening, so probably not the right ones. I fancy Arcs

Yep, I've tried living with the gentler sounding kit, but it's just not me. I got away with a Puresound A30 for a little while and it excelled at lower volumes. In the end, I missed the impact of things like Krell and Bryston. The best kit should really do soft and loud. Exposure does AFAIC. I'm still trying others too.Shahinian interest me because they project sound upwards. I've tended to prefer this.

The Shahinian loudspeakers looks interesting. The Arc certainly does carry a good strong reputation. I've read that they thrive on power!

I snapped up a Bedini 802 (upgraded from a 100/100) with the aim of pairing it with a pair of Arcs. The deal on the Arcs never happened but I'd have loved to try that pairing. Shahinian love Bedini Amps, apparently. You won't see too many in the UK though. I imported mine.

Arcs do pop up over on PFM at times.
The prices vary, depending on the age and condition etc.

Thanks, Martin. Definitely worth considering. I'm out of the UK until next week and have a few goodies arriving on my return. Once I've sorted through those, I will turn my attention to Cocktail Audio and see what I can pick up.
One of my EBay purchases is a pair of Grado SR80i. I've never used proper headphones in many, many years, but something like the Cocktail Audio would pair nicely with them for a no fuss, take anywhere system.
I think I fancy the X40 more but chances of getting a used one within the next few months are slim. I don't usually like buying new because of my track record of box swapping and the money you lose when selling new purchases on. The X30 is great value at £799 though and I get a discount and a new item, so it's tempting.

Well, if you like the Naim/Exposure sound presentation. Then you should like the Grado SR80i.

Sounds good to me! I'm really not sure what to expect so it will be interesting. I have yet toners the Audion amp properly, plus I picked up a Copland amp on EBay and another Naim CD3.5 as a 2nd system jobbie.

Having done a bit more reading on performance and studying internal build, I'm going to wait for something similar from one of the better established makers. It has a lot that I like, especially the feature to record vinyl. But then it's not very well regarded for its sound, as far as I can see. As I've been unable to live with 95% of CD players that have passed through, it's likely that anything below my Naim CDX sonically will be gone in the blink of an eye. Even if it was better sonically than reports suggest, I would have little or no pride of ownership in one of these and likewise my trust in the build and reliability wouldn't be there. I have to feel "right" about a product to keep it and on reflection I can already see that the shoe doesn't fit for me this time. Thanks for the suggestion though. It shows a move towards the sort of thing I would want. Hopefully the market for such things will be exploited by more traditionally "hifi" brands. I will probably be waiting a while before such products become established and I have a choice, but I'm happy with vinyl and CD for now.

Shame, Andrew. I've never heard one and was just hoping that it might suit. There's always the Meridian Sooloos Control 15 but that's quite mightily priced.

Thanks Martin. It looks good but it is too pricey for me right now. I have almost always bought used to avoid big losses, and even then I've rarely spent north of a grand on anything. thats probably about my limit but if I can spend less and get the sound I'm after, then great. I'm really hoping that Naim come up with a couple of such products before long. they seem to have made various combinations except the obvious one.
If they do make such a product, it's likely to start with a higher priced model, but something lower down the range will inevitably follow. It doesn't have to be Naim though. There are other British, European and American brands I'd buy. I do want to own something from a proper hifi name though and for that I'm prepared to wait.
To me it seems obvious that a sizeable number of people don't want to have the hassle of using separate things to rip, store, stream/play their music. I feel the first big name to do this right will make a killing.
