That's an interesting comment, Greg. Why do you use a valve amplifier? Because I like a bit of colouration as well

Ah, the good old Colouration Wars. Like it or not, every component is coloured. You just choose your particular flavour. Mmmmm, I'm enjoying some valvey colourations from my new pre-amp as I type. A very vivid sound, which I have no doubt is in part due to suitably placed high level distortions compared to my now-resting solid state pre. Yum! I do like that Vintage Valve sound, but i get that without using them.

Love Japanese amps Jerry, but never liked their Speakers. Over the years the Japanese have produced some wonderful and little known (over here) speakers, especially from Pioneer and Technics. Many of them were never exported, or only brought over as a token flagship. Yes, the Technics SB301 I mentioned as my 2nd ever pair of hifi speakers were really rather special - obviously coloured but very musical. A friend described them as Japanese Spendor BC2 and he wasn't far wrong. The Sony SS-7200 were really quite drab in comparison. That was over 40 years ago and I've had a soft spot for Technics speakers ever since.

Oh, it's yew again.
Well Andre, you choose not to answer me when I ask you questions.
Anyway, the answer is because I can. I was going to use 15" Eminence Beta drivers, but the 18" Fane came along at a knock down price.
