O dear i truly do not understand the fascination with Direct Drive. You don't have to understand, it's just a case of preferences.
To me, a quality idler drive, or direct drive, is preferable to a belt drive.
You (or others) may disagree, but that is your prerogative.

Me too. Based on everything I've heard, belt drive is my least preferred option.

I spotted one of those super rare direct drive PT Exports on Ebay today. Possibly one of a kind - should have snapped it up. Ahem.....
Looking at the photos, I think there must be a lot of paperwork that comes with it. You know the original receipt, manual, quick start guide, safety instructions, all that stuff. Luckily, there was a big elastic band included in the sale which would be handy to keep all that stuff together.

A few designs used Dalesford units, Aereco, Ram , Swallow etc.. I've been pratting around with hi-fi since the mid 60s, but never heard of (or can't remember) any of those names.
It amuses me to see what was considered "unworthy" in my youth to now be gaining "worthy" status, particularly on Ebay.
Celestion County speakers for example ? They were my first hi-fi speakers, and I thought they were great until I heard better.

I once had a friend who had Wharfedale Linton XP 2 speakers.
But don't really like to advertise the fact.
