Did it come with 5881 output valves as standard kit?

It's a while back (2005) but I'm pretty sure mine had 5881s. The amp came in two differently styled cases. The other version is no looker. I just loved the look of this version. Truly iconic.

It was certainly a refreshingly different design. Not particularly to my taste but that's just me, I expect.

It was nicer in the flesh and had very pleasing proportions, as I remember it. It was also easy to move around because you could get your hands around it at the sides. I remember at the time that a couple of examples had gone into pyrotechnics when they had failed and it was really this that led me to sell mine. I sold it a bit too early and wish I'd spent a bit more time with it. I have had better valve amps since, but nothing prettier to my eyes at least.

Sony SDP-EP9ES. Really good quality DAC/digital preamplifier, had one years ago & enjoyed it for 2 channel.

Looks a interesting product that might surprise people (used a similar processor a few years ago and it was pretty good)

I paid £450 for the one I bought last year. £150 for my first one with the gold arm tube and a Koetsu thrown in for good measure!

It was a lot of years ago! £150 in 1990 is supposed to be worth £325 now according to this.
