For about a month I've been brewing up ideas with Stereo Coffee in Australia. With my wacky ideas and their brilliant technical knowledge of a new LDR pre amp build. We have had what seems like daily emails for the last 3-4 weeks and the circuit boards should be complete tomorrow, ready for postage. Meanwhile I've been pulling together a list of high quality components as I really want this pre amp to be a bit special and a somewhat of a reference. At 11:30 least night I started putting the PSU together, very late to start I know but I wanted to get it underway.
as you can see it will be made up of two chassis, one for the LDR boards, input selector and volume pot etc and the other will be for the PSU which I started last night
I have a bit of work to do tonight , then I'll try and finish off the PSU and test it.

Thanks for sharing James I am looking forward to hearing how this progresses I like that you keeping the PSU separate

What's the circuit topology, James? Is there a circuit diagram?

Hi Martin, I've not got a circuit diagram for the LDR side of the pre amp, Stereo Coffee would have to provide that, perhaps they could join in on this thread as they are the clever ones, definitely not me , I have just thrown some bonkers ideas at them and they tell me if they can be implemented or not.

The PSU is finished, a few days later then expected but there you go. This would work wonders for your Tamp Brian. Next up is the actual pre amp, I'll get going on that soonish.

Certainly looks the part James . You're turning into a bit of a wizz with the self build projects innit I'll be watching this space mate . What's the spec on this PSU BTW ?

Its just a 12V DC supply. It's a dual mono supply as the pre amp will be totally dual mono and my TQ power amp is dual mono, so I'm hoping it will all work together nicely :-)

Looking forwarding to reading hearing how it all sounds when it all comes together. The power amp is pretty special.

I have pluged the new PSU into the loan Stereo Coffee LDR pre amp I have, I try to not look for things or read to much into my findings, but I could swear blind things sound better. I was already using a very good and well regarded PSU for the LDR pre, the one that I use for my DDDAC, but this one seems to have the edge, and hopefully it only improves.

Well done Sov, and so satisfying when you build it yourself.

Well done Sov, and so satisfying when you build it yourself. It really is satisfying. I have skill in mking stuff but my technical knowledge is limited. After I finish this pre amp, I'm back to my DIY DDDAC as there are a few mods to carry out there.

Yes lots you can do with the DDAC but already a great sounding DAC. It beat my Caiman mk2 via battery which is pretty impressive so forced me to go direct digital

Here are the pictures of the dual mono LDR boards, they are on their way from Stereo Coffee in Australia now. I'm tempted to get the second chassis and all the wiring ready so when they arrive all I have to do is drop them in, but I'd rather have them in my hands so I can get the wiring routes correct.

The eagle has landed, and fits perfectly in its case. Now I just have to find the time to put it all together .

Looking good James. The LDR PREs have been on my radar for a wee while. Think a build like this is beyond me but very interested in how things turn out.

Sov do the LDRs you use contain Cadmium ? Your a good man Jammy, if you want to know the make up of LDR's you can Google it, or look on other forums where the topic has been extensively covered.
