When I heared the loan LDR, I was largely impressed but there was a slight hardening to the sound and an edginess to the top end that I didn't like. I kind of hoped that if I tinkered around with the LDR then maybe these could be cured. I changed the volume pot for a TOCOS carbon pot, this instantly warmed up the sound with better tonal colour and surprisingly fuller .bottom end. I then changed out the terrible wall wart for a very good quality regulated supply which gave me more of the same. I was so impressed with the improvements that I knew I had something here, and I wanted to see how far I could go with the LDR, hense this all out build. I still have the modified loan LDR, I have had it now for about three months. Long term it has really impressed me, with no listener fatigue at all. No idea what difference this OTT build will make to what I have already but hopefully I will know very soon.

Hi Paul As of midmidnight tonight, the LDR pre amp is working, not buttoned up yet but it is working as it should. Sounds very good indeed. Is it better than the loan LDR I changed the PSU and pot on? It is certainly smoother and has more impact to the sound. Everything sounds so relaxed and natural. But I haven't listened to my hifi for a couple of weeks to compare. I'll have to spin the new Stereo Coffee pre for a couple of days then revert to the old one to compare. But as it stands I really realy like what I hear, I'm sure the other Stereo Coffee loan amp doesn't sound this natural, we'll see.

Good thanks, Not got to the hifi recently as work is a bit relentless at the moment. Will be good to hear the system as a whole when we have a TAS invasion on Saturday.

Only needed if the magic smoke escapes, so a gas mask may be quicker?

A reliable source told me John is a bit partial to a short skirt and a crop top.

Well maybe a year later, my LDR pre amp is finally finished! I was somewhat distracted by making my Wonfor monster Class A power amp in the middle of my LDR build. So here are a few snap shots of the finished build. In this time Chris at Stereo Coffee had a new LDR board for me to fit, as I was having a few teething problems I packed up just the LDR side of the amp and posted it to him in New Zealand, well while my amp was there he used it to try a few modifications on, and in doing so he has completely re built the whole amp, so a BIG hats off to Stereo Coffee for their Stirling service! I'm pretty sure my LDR is one of a kind, especially as I have a dual power supply and dual mono LDR amp. The real qualities about this amp is the speed of the music and the timing is as quick as a certain Jamaican sprinter. The musical presentation is wider and musician / singer placement and transparancy is exceptional, I most definitely feel closer to the music. There is more detail coming through for sure, I love hearing all the timing nuances of David Brubeck on the piano, and musical inflections I had no idea were there. I have never heard so much detail, such a wide musical presentation with pin point musician placement with enough drive and grunt for my power amp to lap up. seriously though Well done Chris at Stereo Coffee.

Very interesting, Sov. I also had teething problems with mine and Chris has just completed a build for me so expect it back soon. Nothing as sofisticated ultimate as yours but certainly I am looking forward to the revalation of revealed sound detail you refer to and I originally experienced.
