I could imagine that being good on 12" single.

I've bought a whole load of 12" singles recently but the one that stands out as being an immaculate recording and a definite reference for future system testing is Grace Jones - Slave to the Rhythm ... Just leaps out the speakers - the dynamics and sense of separation is astounding. I've got a few Yello 12" singles and they are good. Does no get more hi-res from vinyl than 12"

I have The Race on 12" and it has incredible impact. As does Chris Rea's Road to Hell.

Don't know what it says about my musical tastes, but I only have one of the tracks/albums suggested in my collection, and that's the Dire Straits ! I've got all Dire Straits stuff. Still like to roll out the first two albums from time to time 35 years ago they'd have been high on my list
Added. Ride across the river is still great

Massive Attack - Mezzanine // incredible production, a chance for a HiFi to reproduce it. Huge basslines, but with delicate female vocals, an all-round test.
Joni Mitchell - Blue // if your system doesn't get sibilance right then this album's vocals will kiss it bye bye. When I spent time tuning my system I used a lot of Joni Mitchell records
Metallica - ...And Justice For All // yes Lars Ulrich massively hyped up the drum production, and it is very raw in some ways, but at the same time it's something that I've heard across many different systems, and it will absolutely test the ability for a HiFi to keep it together when things get busy and loud
Lamb - Lamb // more huge basslines, expansive effects, loads of demanding beats and female vocals to top it off
Dead Can Dance- Toward The Within // very live sounding, natural album. This one has a lot of presence that gets missed out with poorer HiFi. Also a stunning listen just like all of these albums.

Some great new recommendations there, and one I completely agree with: Massive Attack.

E it's good this thread.
Rolled out Joni this evening a bit, good recommendation. Mezzanine, yes kinda forgotten about this one dark undertones, Angel is a bit Yelloesque, hate the cover pic though! I'm a bit light on Metallica! I'll get that one just incase you ever visit! Got feeling my big amps and bass drivers will like the workout.
Nirvana will have to do in the meantime!
Lamb / Dead can dance - have to check those out. Your music is right up my current street

Yello - Touch and Yello - Toy.
I've been listening to both of these at some volume and they are extraordinarily good sounding CDs. Impactful, dynamic and very fast with huge measures of bass, too. I bring them with me when I want to evaluate systems but the good thing about them is the great music, I just don't tire of listening to them.
In a good system they will knock your socks off.

Massive Attack - Teardrop. I commented on another forum that if you could hear the bass "that isn't there" then your system can plumb the depths without it sounding boomy.
I used to have a few albums that I used religiously to "test" after changes and "improvements", but I just got sick of hearing them, so now I will play anything (Shuffle) and I have not been disappointed.....so far.

A few Yello albums also have that kind of bass - the obvious bass that even small speakers can play, and then the subsonic bass beneath it that only the big guys reveal. Touch and Toy are both excellent for that.
