Well well. I downloaded a FLAC file from HDTracks this AM and had my first listen as an album. I'd heard the music different times and places.
Scored 8 - seems I am a bit of a sheep
They were something else in 1970s.

I've had all of their studio albums on my HD for quite some time but hadn't made the effort to sit and listen to this particular album from start to finish, giving it my undivided attention. Given that they are cited as a major influence on quite a few of the electronic acts/albums I listen to today, I'd always planned to see what all the fuss was about and I have to say that its not bad at all. Given that it was released in 1978, I'd expected it to have dated more than it actually has. I've even uploaded it to my iBasso DX90 for the commute to work tomorrow. As I don't have much experience of their total catalogue, I've given it 7/10...

I remember seeing them on The Old Grey Whistle Test and thinking: "Who the hell's that?" Got the album (still have it) and thought it was pretty good. Think I'd give it 8.
The BBC4 item is worth watching. Could have been a bit more in-depth though, I thought.

They were so ahead of the their time and did a huge amount to develop electronic music. I agree that the album doesn't seem to be dated at all, which compared to a lot of the other recordings from that era is very unusual. I will now give February's selection a listen, never heard of them before :-) Lawrence

I tried to see something to like in this album, I really did! I failed however, and repeated attempts don't seem to make it any better. Actually if anything, it grates even more now than it did before. Sorry - a belated 1/10 from me.

Yeah, sorry but it doesn't 'werk' for me, not one little bit.

Kraftwerk_The_Man_Machine by losenotaminute, on Flickr I'm a big fan of electronic music, and this is one of the best Kraftwerk albums IMO. Originally released in 1978, it features 'The Model' which was released as a B side to Computer Love - another great Kraftwerk track. Read more about The Man-Machine at Wikipedia. https%3A//soundcloud.com/s-a-2/kraftwerk-the-man-machineIf you like Kraftwerk, you might also try Tangerine Dream and Human League. Happy New Year! Lawrence 261617504786 2 left. Looks really neat, and just £2

They're not really in the same genre, so impossible to compare.

I've been listening to Dare by HL recently and I respectfully suggest it is in the same league as any TD album. My favourite TD album is Tyger, but it might be too "mainstream" for many people.
/.....can't get Spotify links to embed properly but this is a great album, using lyrics from William Blake's poems.

Thanks Chris, I would be interested to know what you think of the first 2 track. Given that you aren't a big Kraftwerk fan, are they any more listenable?

OK - a bit tricky to listen to anything just now, but I'll get onto it shortly.

Would not have guessed it was TD
Not keen on the female vocal, sound or style
I'm a bit of a TD and HL fan

One of their best offerings.
Tangerine Dream are in a whole different class however!
Human League! ha ha ha ha.

I only have modest gear at present, but am hoping to upgrade very soon with the help of the chaps on here. On my amp and speakers, with tape as source the Kraftwerk album sounds amazingly peppy and not too heavy. It sort of comes across as pop rather than rock, if I were to compare them to anyone it would be Depeche Mode. 8/10
p.s. I love the cover, very representative of the sound, not many have commented on the art work but it's part of the whole package isn't it?

Yes, the cover very much suits the content. It's one of my favourite KW albums.
