I recently finished Recursion by Blake Crouch (the author of Wayward Pines). It's almost, but not quite, as brilliant as Dark Matter, one of my all-time favourites.
I'm now reading Authority by Jeff Vandermeer, the 2nd in the Southern Reach series. If you haven't seen the film Annihilation starring Natalie Portman, I highly recommend it. Vandermeer has an impressive descriptive grasp, reminding me of John Updike, and that's high praise. An immersive read.

'The Vorrh' by Brian Catling (I haven't started this one yet) Interesting premise. Well, I read the first few pages on Amazon. Was undecided about actually buying the book, but then a) some people whose opinions I repect raved on about how good it was and b) I got an Amazon gift voucher for Father's Day. Then Mrs H recommended the E H Young book, and I got embroiled in that, so the Catling book is on the back-burner fr now.

RESULT! First bargain(s) of the year, I've just picked up a used - like new hardback copy of Miriam Margolyes' new autobiography "This Much is True," for £7.35 from Amazon, and "Tall Tales and Wee Stories: The Best of Billy Connolly," (Used - Very Good) for a few pennies less than a fiver, also in hardback.
