I'm just finishing David Hewson's translation of "The Killing" and have the other two in the series ready to read on the Nook.

A bloke's book about a subject close to my heart. Not geeky, but brilliant and written so as to make it fascinating even if you don't understand the unending pleasure to be had from making a tidy stack of fuel from a messy heap of logs. Axemanship is an almost completely lost craft in Britain. 'Norwegian Wood: Chopping, stacking and drying wood the Norwegian way'

Bill Bryson - The Road to Little Dribbling.
I enjoy his travelogues and this one is as funny as anything he has ever written. Many laugh out loud moments.

I have enjoyed all of his books too, but this one has been less enjoyable for me for some reason. At times what is intended as hilarity seems a little bitter.

I've just finished 'The Last Chronicle of Barset' by Anthony Trollope, and am about halfway through 'A Small Town in Germany' by John le Carre. Gripping stuff.

I've just finished reading The Kindness by Polly Samson. I had wondered what David Gilmour's other half was like as a novelist. She writes beautifully, in fact the last time I read such wonderful language was by John Updike. The story is simple but the timeline highly convoluted, such that I was quite lost on a few occasions until a further clue appeared. More enjoyable just for the writing, I am impressed with her skills (which are also evident in some of her lyrics for Gilmour's songs).

Picked up my copy of Damage Done again today. Fantastic book that details a drug smugglers time in Bwang Kwamp prison. Torture, heaped upon misery with a healthy dose of despair thrown in. Highly recommended.

I'm back on Jack Campbell now, started a new series about Stark. His Lost Fleet series was superb, a different take on the clash between politics and the military and featuring some very gripping war scenes. I needed some easy books to help me sleep well.

Currently reading The Girl in the Spider's Web, a continuation of the great Stieg Larsson trilogy by David Lagercrantz. I'm not entirely convinced yet, but I haven't reached the introduction of Lisbeth yet.

Replay by Ken Grimwood Very well written book about a man who dies at the same age and resets to 18 years old again. He tries to understand what's happening and does different things in each re-life, searching for answers and also just wanting to forget. The amount of historical research that went into writing this novel is impressive and it's a very compelling read.
