I don't have any issues with the 70's, I remember them well. I just don't have any inclination to revisit the past (or reinvent it in my mind as some kind of golden Utopia).

I'm a bit busy at the minute but I'll write something about the show as soon as possible. To be honest, unfortunately I thought it was generally a bit lack lustre and there wasn't much of the extraordinary or bizarre.

I don't understand this love of nostalgia and certainly wouldn't want to return to the 70's!

Lots of stuff that was made in the past is no longer remembered and some of that made now will be remembered in the future.

The more modern Tannoy dual concentric drivers definitely have a lower treble colouration that, once noticed, is annoyingly obvious and can be heard on many recordings. Older ones in large rear loaded cabinets have an altogether different mix of colourations - mostly in the bass. A friend of mine built some very stiff cabinets for his Golds, then converted them to active operation (which didn't do much for them) and eventually removed the Tannoy driver and fitted one from Eminence coupled to a tweeter - this sounded altogether better.

I wouldn't hold your breath - way before then it will have morphed into something completely different again (judging by progress so far) and the never ending cycle of 'development' will still have no end in sight.

Sounds from the description rather like the ifi iPurifier (but cheaper).

The damping that Naim do is not the same as Royd did. That is to say that it isn't a steel plate intended to reinforce the panel. The bits that Naim add are parasitic damping, a block of metal attached to a spring (though actually foam) and placed at the point of greatest resonance (the centre of the panel.

Me too, though more in general. No linear tracker has ever wowed me with its sound. Well it won't fitted to a techie dude haha! Only messin of course, I did see one fitted to a techie at Owston once, it was a home made linear tracker arm it sounded pretty good. The last time I heard a linear tracker on a Techie it had a profound lack of bass.

Oddly I am somewhat less convinced by their linear trackers, though I don't know that particular one.

I can probably find out as a friend is quite close to all this - personally I never read that pfm thread though.

I think some of the Clearaudio arms are rather good value and somewhat looked down upon.

Yes true - assuming it is entirely filled and the fuse doesn't break (which is unlikely but not entirely unknown). But I take your point (still seems like a poor idea to me though).

I'm not sure filling a fuse with something flammable is such a good (or even legal) idea.

Yeah, I quite agree. My comments are only relating to the forum software feature, not the value of actual friends .

OK, I've checked the one I have and it is as I have described, irrespective of what others might think.
