Thanks, MikeMusic , always good sharing music with you. robbiegong the improvement in SQ in the new room is quite astonishing. As you say, the big Ushers have room to breath with the result that they go deeper and tighter than before with a big airy soundstage and really excellent focus. Everything is more natural, less pushed and seemingly with greater headroom than before. Excellent Martin,Has had the effect of a very good upgrade.

Just stumbled across this thread. Would love a room that size Martin, well chuffed for you. Is the sound you're now experiencing a lot different to that of your old listening room ? I'm guessing those lovely big Ushers can breath and be pushed a little more in the extra space ?

Rob dude - you've just gotta buy some since you've been wanting to try them for so long now! Too long for my liking bro funds and only funds have stopped me taking the plunge as yet. I've spent a fair bit, one upgrade after the other as you know. Nearly there though as i've finished paying up on the Paul Hynes external SR7 psu and his triple stage regulator modules - the final piece in my Techie upgrade journey - yippeee!! It's been years of changes and upgrades but cant be much longer now before I bag a pair of nice Spennies - I'm a patient man, I've had to be

Hi dsjr, Thanks for the detailed response, much appreciated. Any new additon would replace my Mission 752 Freedoms which I have had many years and find hard to let go. They just get better with every upgrade and bring me a lot of pleasure. Non fatiguing, detailed, great and natural in the mids etc BUT.. I sense having toyed with the idea of replacing them on and off over the years that the right Spendors would be a genuine upgrade in fairly much the same vain as the 752 Freedoms.
If a pair of S9e's or S8e's came up at the right price I'd be very tempted (I'm looking for a bargain ) as I dont have equivalent speaker money. Cable is QED Silver Spiral which is great in my set up. I dont think the Chord Odyssey would be an upgrade as such so I'd probably leave things as they are there initially.
Yes, I've heard and read good things about the current Spendor D7's but way out of my price range.
Amp is Sansui AU 919 so plenty of clean power. Main source - heavily modded Technics SL 1210 MK5g with Ortofon Quintet Black mc. Other source - Pioneer PD91 cdp.
Music - Mainly classic 70's / 80's soul and reggae - Bill Withers, Billy Paul, Stevie, Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, Lou Rawls, Marvin, Roy Ayres, Little Beaver, Aretha Franklin, Esther Phillips, Roberta Flack, Steely Dan / Donald Fagen.... Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Dennis Brown, Freddie Mcgregor, Gregory Isaacs, Black Uhuru etc etc

Anyone have experience of these big floor-standers ?

It creates more space in the soundstage, a better sensation of the extremities, notes and voices hang in the air with sharper focus, the noise floor drops. All these things happen in my system but there's no guarantee that it will happen in anyone else's. Before you go to the expense of a better fuse for the Sansui, make sure that its power is going straight to the wall and not via another distributor. Use a decent cable and clean the pins both ends. If its possible, exchange the wall socket for an unswitched variety. Then try the fuse (after adapting to the current sound). Let us know what you think. Cheers Martin. I have the Missing Link Ultra Pure Silver Plated unswitched socket and plugs with AMR gold fuses at the mo and the amp goes straight into that / the wall. Once my amp is sorted and returned I'll spend some time adapting to the changes - re-cap, hybrid ceramic bearings in the tonearm and I've also finished paying down on the Paul Hynes SR7 external psu and the triple stage regs I told you I was pursuing That's a lot of change in one go. Once my ears have got used to the changes I'll consider the SR Black. BTW - I'll be sending you a pm regarding the psu and regs.

This is why I recommend With regard to the SR Black, I'm tempted to try one in my Sansui AU 919 when I get it back from re-cap and tech work being done. What are your thoughts ?Deoxit spray. It cleans and preserves. Use it on every connection - mains, signal, speaker. Use it on fuseholders, too. It's great stuff and keeps your system sounding at its best. Good advice Martin. With regard to the SR Black fuses, I'm tempted to try one in my Sansui AU 919 when I get it back from re-cap and tech work being done. What are your thoughts ? How would you describe the 'change' with the Black ?

My moneys on him too and that will be a seriously exciting pairing. They want the established star and the big rising star. They want the best and to stay the best. They'll do whatever they can to bag Verstappen and have the Hamilton Verstappen pairing. Red Bull will fight hard but money always seems to talk at the end of the day.

Hamilton is the undisputed star of F1 Hmmm, a great talent yes, undisputed star? Well I flat out disagree with that . . . lol ! F1 needs Hamilton at the mo', globally he's the star, absolutely.

As much as I love Hamilton, I kind of warmed to Nico this season. He's only human afterall and I do have the utmost respect for his decision. He could have let his ego get in the way to look strong and continued but I sense he cant be asked with all the stress and hard work anymore. He knows the coming season would be no easier for a number of reasons and Hamilton will be all over it ! Some people thrive on it, some dont - Respect to him for not pretending otherwise.

This is quite a shock and will trigger all manner of debate and even conspiracy. Hamilton is the undisputed star of F1, Verstappen the undisputed rising star. Mercedes Benz being who they are will want the big rising star to line up against their global star and nothing else will do for them. They don’t do ones they only do one two’s. The relationship between Totto and Verstappens Dad is ideal…. They will move heaven and earth to make this happen, mark my words !

Nico has retired apparently !!! Blimey !!! Why is likely because he's achieved the one thing he really wanted and just wants to chill with family and enjoy an easier less stressful life - fair enough I guess. It is clear he found F1 and the title chase very tough, he often said F1 is never easy. Who'll partner Hamilton - wow !!

Why ?? The title was clearly his ultimate goal and now he has ti he probably cant be asked anymore and just wants to settle to an easier life with family - fair enough. Worth adding this to F1 thread I think.

Whilst I mildly criticise Lewis for some of his interviews I really have no time for Merc if they want their drivers to 100% tow the company line when Merc already have the WCC and the drivers are battling for the WDC. The WDC is what the public want to see, it's more important to the paying public than the WCC. An orchestrated WDC holds little interest. I agree, and what is it with Jackie Stewart always spouting 'it's Hamiltons fault' ?? He did the same regarding the Spa incident and here he is again with his insulting ballerina blame remarks. I'm beginning to think he see's Hamilton as regrettably 'that other guy' sharing my greatness as the only British drivers with three titles - hence always on the negative. No worries Stewey - Lewis will likely end his career with 4, 5 or maybe 6 titles so you've nothing to worry about.....

Well one could say he gets too many critical behaviouly references to make you 'sick to the back teeth' because he bahaves badly, simples. But hey each to their own. I'll agree to differ. Yeah ! He really behaves badly, heaven help us eh

Massive Hamilton fan here - Think he's an awesome talent and dont think he behaves like a dick out of the car at all. He comes across as quite a decent guy to me and I'm glad he doesn't tend to bow. If he was from outside the uk they would be all over him like a rash, appreciate and get right behind what they had. Absolutely sick to the back teeth of 'the behave like Jenson' type references' what da heck! he aint Jenson Button for crying out loud (and why should he be ?) get over it and let the guy be - stonking talent, top young guy and hats off to him from me.

Well !! I've lost £30 today, would have picked up £130 if Lewis would have pulled it off but deep down i knew that whilst he'd win it being Hamilton, the reality of Rosberg coming 4th today in that car was an extremely tall order and mostly unlikely, Some are unhappy because they dont feel the best driver / racer won. ( I feel the same as pjdowns and Martin T by to be honest but hey ho!) As much as I love Hamilton and do think he's a fab driver, I've no hard feelings towards Rosberg. He's realised a childhood dream, done it like his Dad and he and fam' will be elated.
Yes, he'll know deep down that it's happened mainly due to Hamilton having more than the usual mechanical crap to deal with all season but wont care one iota. Hamilton clawed back every single time but when he and we thought it couldnt get any worse - blown engine leading the race in Malaysia and nil points. That one in my eyes was one bridge too far for anyone and so... Destiny had it Rosberg for 2015/16.
Will it hurt Hamilton, you bet. It's how he's made - what I mean by that is he knows he's 'better', knows how good he is and that if wasn't for said issues Rosberg would only have had a sniff and nothing more but that's life. Lick ya wounds Lewis, you've shown that you are as good as untouchable when you've got the bit between your teeth and on the level playing field. I'm no doubt at all that Hamilton will come back stronger than ever, his mind set will be 'I will return' and that the title is only on loan.
See you all next season guys, I'm already looking forward to it, new cars, rules and all of that.

I agree, I just hope that Lewis can somehow pull it off, he showed without doubt in Brazil that he is a lot, lot, lot better than Rosberg... and in fact, however good Max was, Lewis was someone he couldn't catch. I know what you mean. It kind of grates that Rosberg would win the championship because of circumstances and not because he's better. I think he'll know that deep down but wont care one smidge. Being world champion will mean 'I'm no.1' to him, a big fat ego boost, 1st best and he'll love having that over Lewis within the team. I'm hoping for a miracle and that the man who's had a bunch of bad luck and dug deepest all season retains his title
